Can anyone say ball park what the upgrade costs are for extending a trip from 31 days to 4 months with the nationwide flex plus travel insurance? I am about to switch bank accounts to the Nationwide and was comparing the flex direct vs the flex plus for the travel insurance but only if the upgrade costs are within reason. I plan to spend 4 months at a time away each year and can't get an idea of the upgrade costs without switching and getting the account first. If it helps my partner and I are 55 and in good health and the plan is to spend the 4 months in Europe and Morocco from early spring. Thanks in advance.

I would just call them and ask the question. Have to say my experience with them on claims has been first class. I think I pay about 65 pounds a year for the age related add on

The Nationwide flex plus travel insurance is outsourced to a company called "UK Insurance". Their helpline is 0800 051 0154 - this should take you through to the Nationwide Travel Insurance Team.

There are 3 types of extension:
Age extension, if over 70
Medical Upgrade, if you have any pre-existing medical conditions
Trip extension, for trips longer than 31 days

The OP probably only requires the Trip extension. Cover is world-wide.

So, apart from paying the Nationwide flex plus fee of £13/month the only extra should be the Trip extension. They will ask if you or your partner have had need to contact your GP in the last 12 months....even repeat prescriptions need to be disclosed.

Just specify your requirement. We got quotes for multiple trips with duration up to 90 days and 70 days. There was a price difference, and we opted for 70 days. We have age and medical upgrades too, but don’t have the cost breakdown with us.

Firstly, welcome to the forum. Hopefully, the above posts have been helpful. A reply would be appreciated, once you've had time to digest the info.

The Nationwide FlexPlus also provides free UK & European breakdown and recovery assistance. Purchased elsewhere would probably cost around £100 per year. However, the Nationwide insurance doesn't cover Morocco.

Dear all, thank you for your very helpful input. I shall talk to Nationwide on the number above and confirm the costs tomorrow. I'll update this post afterwards with the costs if that's helpful for others in the future. I haven't used a forum before so this has been a new experience! Thanks again everyone.

I have cover from the free flex direct. Not heard anything from Nationwide. How did you find out?
I think the free flex direct finishes at the ends of the year
It's for new customers only, those who already have a Flexaccount Plus are not affected, (or so I believe).

FlexPlus is still going strong as per Nationwide website which says:

Features and benefits
Travel insurance for your family, worldwide

For you, your partner and your dependent children. Includes winter sports, golf, weddings and business cover.

Mobile phone insurance for your family, worldwide

For your mobile and those belonging to your partner and dependent children. Covers loss, theft, damage and faults with your mobile.

Breakdown cover in the UK and the rest of Europe

For your vehicle and any that you’re travelling in. With no excess to pay and unlimited callouts. Vehicles need to be registered in the UK, taxed and serviced, and have a valid MOT.

No need to register before you claim

Cover for all the insurances starts once your FlexPlus account is open.

Travel-friendly Visa debit card

There are no Nationwide transaction fees to worry about when you withdraw cash or make payments abroad.

For us (I'm over 70 and have basic medical conditions) 106 days £304.27. We intend to get 3 trips under this policy.

I have had the nationwide Travel Insurance free for many years. That is the insurance that is ceasing at end of the year, I received a letter a few weeks back.
I believe they now offer Insurance that you pay for. They have similar names.

Switching to Flexplus might be better, you also get vehicle breakdown cover as well as a few other benefits.
