And namwaldog post about the car park over night stays, we used the car park stay over last night.
We drove into the car park at around 2pm and it was full, but drove along the road north a little and got into a lovely parking spot with access down onto the shoreline of Ullswater water and had our lunch there in the sunshine.
Popped back along to the car park for 6:30 and got a nice corner spot no problem.
Small issue of payment, the parking bay states overnight from 18:30 to 08:30 but the pay machine states 20:00 to 08:30, I made payment via the app at 18:30 and paid only £10 until the morning.
Had a little wander around the area to get our bearings, there's toilets (temporary portaloos at present), a cafe between 9am and 4:30 pm and recycling bins, plus a short walk to the shore and the Ullswater steamer jetty, and of course, a walk to the falls.
When we locked up at around half 8, there were 8 vans in total and a nice sporty 2 door merc coupe with roof tent, we I got up at 6 to walk the falls, noticed two of the van's had either gone already, or not stayed.
Walked both falls in the early morning light, unfortunately, they are only small at the moment due to the lack of rainfall we've had but it was pleasant enough, and at that time of the morning no one else was around
Then walked down to the shore and caught the sunrise coming over the water
A very nice spot to spend the night, and if you are a national trust member day time parking is free, so you could quite easily spend two consecutive nights there for £20 with your day parking free
