Having spent 2 months on the coast of Portugal this year we are thinking that next year we will follow the N2 from north to south then work our way back up the west coast. Has anybody followed the N2 in its entirety and any warnings or recommendations. We have a 7.5m motorhome. TIA Chris

Close, but not quite! I drive south to north in October this year, but followed mainly the IP2, Beja, Evora, Sierra da Estrella, Braganca, using all free Aires.

Thered are stretches of dual carriageway, but mainly single, and that’s a good road. The detour on the N roads towards Unhais da Serra was quite spectacular, and the Douro valley was nice too.

The N2 is publicised as the Route 66 of Portugal by the tourist office, and there are several dedicated websites and facebook pages for it!

I’ll do it one of theses days, not in winter though as it’s cold inland and snows too!

Once again, have not done it, however, replying to your thread simply because of my great interest in doing so. I have travelled many parts of the N2 in the North in search of the megaliths which sparked my interest in the whole 'Portugal route 66' as it is now being marketed as. I have watched the biker videos and there does not appear to be any hot spots to worry a camper although of course you will need to hear from someone who has done the whole route. I can confirm that in the mountains the temperature dropped below freezing every night in January so I personally would be looking at April or May. Good luck, sure lots would like to follow

Did it last year in January and the roads were fine. Had no problems and the Douro valley was lovely. If not in a rush enjoy it. Loved Portugal and the Portuguese people we met.

We're just on the N2 near to Evora. We have had no snow, rain or other unpleasant weather. There was some fog yesterday morning whilst high up but it's been sunny most days. Bon Voyage!

I have this trip planned for end of March. Ferry to Santander then N2 down to Lagos.

Done a couple trips working our way down from the top in 2018 & 2019, not sure what roads we used. Links to the trips in my signature, there will be a map of the route towards the end of the thread.
