Easy to forget the metered connection setting. Last year I changed the login on my router in the van forgot when I logged on to change the new settings to metered, bloody Windows gobbled up 1.6gb doing an update.

Easy to forget the metered connection setting. Last year I changed the login on my router in the van forgot when I logged on to change the new settings to metered, bloody Windows gobbled up 1.6gb doing an update.

Prior to the recent change to metered connection settings, which I did not know about I already had everything that I could find with automatic updates disabled anyway as I am nearly always on a metered connection of some sort

I will have a look at that but I don't know if I am tech savvy enough to make use of it and am a bit worried about downloading stuff that I don't really understand

probably google, amazon, and facebook uploading all your location and activity data, they now more about you than you do,

Windows doesn't update on any of my machines unless I tell it to, learnt that lesson long ago
I only do it when on an unmetered connection at my Daughters.

Doesn’t Windows have a “feature” these days where it shares updates on a peer-to-peer basis unless you disable it? Might only be Windows 10 I’m thinking of.
