I had a 1303 s back when God was a lad, and was under the impression it was a 1600. Nice car that was.

The top engine!! They originally only had them in the 1600 fastback.
Nah they were in panel vans , campers and beetles thd 1600 was the biggest of the large fan engines. the fast back used the suitcase type 3 engine and the 1600 was the smallest they came in 1700 1800 and 2000

I didn't think they ever put the 1600 into the beetle saloon. The 1600 was always known as the 'Porche 1600'.

The Fastback, or TL version, a fastbackcoupé, arrived in August 1965, at the same time the 1600 engine was introduced.

I seem to remeber that the fan was moved somehow......

Different engine the porsche engine was from the air cooled porsche 356 and was never fitted by vw in a vw ....It was a common custom fit for enthusiasts though.

The 1600 engine fitted in the type 3 , fastback, notch back and variant was a different engine from the 1600 type 2 engine which was used in the vw transporter from 1967 and the vw beetle 1302 and 1303 ....The type 3 engine was much flatter which gave the fastback etc a boot above the engine ...These were later used in the t25 transporters as well

The one in the op's trike is a type 2 engine ....The best looking one and the easiest one to modify and add chrome etc

Lovely bit of kit , is it Sunbeam S7 mist green by any chance ?

Steve.

I first thought that it was "eau de nil" as commonly seen in engine rooms of large ships coating just about everything, but it was not polite to suggest that. Almost the same colour, though.......
