Getting Better
I’m going to do a little thread on the upgrades and other work that I’m planning to do on my newly acquired PVC

Any input gratefully received as no doubt it will help me and others that may be doing something similar.

The small scaffolding tower came this morning, it’ll make it easier for me to climb up there and a bit safer too. I’m going to take off the air-con unit so I can put as much solar up there that I can get on, I had a quick look and I’m going to re-seal all the skylights as I’m not happy with how they look now.

As I’ll be up and down a lot I thought it a good investment at £230…

We've had our PVC for 9 months now. We've fitted an awning and cab blinds since buying it and we have recently added two shelves to the wardrobe for some extra practical storage. Other than that we're pleased with our rear lounge layout.

A good plan. A PVC also gives you scope for magnetic grab handles, I have the Thule ladder holder but I could see that single (cheaper) ones could be put to good use.

Yesterday I had to put some black mastic around the passenger side side windows as I have water in the rear lounge and the only place I could think it was coming from was the windows. I dried it out and with today’s rain it seems to have done the trick.

I also have some water coming down the drivers side rear corner where the rear lights are and a quick look up on the roof yesterday Looks like it may be coming in through the hole for the wires from the old solar panel that blew off when I was driving home after collecting it. It looks like the wires go into a strip of trunking straight down into the van so I think that’s where the water is coming from then running along the wires to the back.

There’s not a lot I can do today as it’s raining consistently…😎

Hi Garry what scaffold tower did you get? I have endlessly looked yet never committed myself! Congrats too on the New van - it looks great and given the market you did well. David

This one David, I ordered yesterday and they phoned me within the hour and it arrived lunchtime today, it looks sturdy and it will do the job…

Many thanks. I could not easily see the top platform height as the reference to working height is to the hands of the model in the pic? If you have not assembled yet no worries.

Once I’ve got it up I’ll send a picture of it next to the van for reference ….😎

The idea was to stop more water getting in 😉

I know Terry I appreciate your concern, I’ve turned the van around so the water runs of the other way so not much getting in at the moment but I’ll sort it in the next few days but it’s blowing a hoodie and pissing down the last few days…👍🏼

It’s a shame you don’t live closer, you could have used our barn. We actually spotted your van when it was up for sale as Lisa keeps looking at pvc’s. It looked nice for the price compared to most what’s out there 👍

Thanks for the offer..👍🏼

I’m not in love with it at the moment pictures are deceiving, it does look the part and it will be a good van for me but it has lots of little things that need doing and all adds up but I’ll get there if this weather ever holds up for a bit. Being in a wheelchair and not getting any younger some stuff just takes me a little longer to do so by the time I’m ready to do something on the van another heavy shower turns up… that’s Cornwall for ya, but I’ll get there…😎

Turning the van around has help the water ingress from the old solar wires as it’s not coming in where it was…🤞🏼
Unless it’s now going somewhere else..😆😂

Managed to get my little tower up today in between showers of hail…🥶

It looks like it wasn’t the solar wire inlet that was letting in water at the back corner as there’s plenty of sealant around it so it must have been the seal around the top of the back door that I fiddled with previously.

But it’s no wonder the solar panel blew off as there’s not much sealant that was around the feet and it’s gone hard so I don’t know what they used to fit it as it didn’t bond very well. It’s a bodge as no gland as the wire goes in a hole and smothered with sealant…

I’ve also got to get new fridge vent covers as the tabs have been broken off and some kind of sealant is holding them on, I’ve only found one supplier who does the fitting surround and vent together but only in white so I’ll spray them.. £33 each.. ouch 😱

davidroxburgh i made some planks up and had them on the second rung up (by the bottom of the windows) and sitting on my arse my head was the height of the top vent so someone standing from there could easily reach over the roof for cleaning or working and the planks could go on the next rung up and still be very stable, there is two bars that fit to the very top to enclose it but I didn’t put them on as I wasn’t going up that high. All in all it will make it a lot easier for me to get up on the roof, but I’ll have to make sure I’ve got all the tools I need…😂

Think I’ll re-seal all the vents too as they don’t look good.
