Having read the book and now watched the documentary.

I think the intended target was......

sylvain mollier, the cyclist.

Yeah, that seems to be the conclusion of the documentary.
It's far from conclusive though and of course the french will never agree, having ruled him out as a target on the first day

It's a fascinating story though with many contradictory factors. Maybe we'll never know for sure ?

It was interesting to watch such a sad story.
Could no one have been the intended target?
French police made plenty of mistakes that’s the only thing that comes out. Letting someone go home with bloodied clothes and then his mother puts them in the washing machine is incompetent to start with.

I have always thought the main point in this case is that the whole family (including kids) were killed. I don't buy that they were collateral damage or that they were killed only because they had witnessed the cyclist being shot.

Who is the only person who would stand to gain anything from the whole family being killed? The brother.
