Hi fellow bikers

My insurance is up for renewal and I thought I'd check around

Looking for recommendations for a mix of a modern superbike, a Royal Enfield Continental GT535 and two highly modified classic bikes

First place I called asked if a nearly 50 year old modified bike was still the original colour!! (when I applied for the V5 - DVLA phoned me to ask what colour it was)

Any suggestions on who to try??

Thanks in advance for any assistance

Yes, thank you
Have you thought of a Traders policy? covers everything you drive, no idea of your personal circumstance but might fit the bill for cars , bikes and m/homes

I use IAM Surety. They’ll usually better any other quote I get.

Can a non-trader get a Trader’s policy?

Are these provided by specialist insurers or do you just contact a mainstream insurer and ask for a trader’s policy?

With the number of bl**dy vehicles we have in our household I’ve often thought I should seek fleet insurance! 🤣

We used ebike one year but they were online only, seems like they are now Brightside so wouldn’t touch them with a bargepole

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
For me and loads of my biker and motorcyclist pals and acquaintances who have 50+ yrs old and modern bikes Peter James Ins. has been the goto provider. Although they specialise in classic bike insurance I have Brit classics from 1927, '47, '52 and '54 plus two Jap bikes less than 4 yrs old with them.
Knowledgeable efficient staff and no buttons to press.

I use Carole Nash.
Some years ago I had a very bad experience with them during settlement of a no-fault crash. Impenetrable call centre with never the same person twice and an utterly incompetent assessor.
At that time they were part of the French group Groupama but I believe they have since been taken over again by another general insurance group.

If you buy or sell a vehicle then you are technically a a trader, policies start around ÂŁ1600 just tell them you are starting a business you do not have to show a profit! You used to be able to *insure* via an indemnity which most public transport companies did , they lodged ÂŁ16,000 with a Lloyds name to cover any third party claims and could run the fleet as long as they agreed to cover at fault accidents no idea if still doing this but it so may be another avenue to explore

Not sure if it’s still the case (though doubt it has reduced) selling six vehicles a year classed you as a trader, don’t ask how I know 🙄...

Good God!- fancy Peter James still being in business - he certainly always was damned good and 100% trustworthy but there again so were a lot of us, back in that day and I haven't set eyes on him since the Classic Car show in Bristol in the mid 1980s ! My relationship with cheapo premium high volume standard cover was both short and uncomfortable, I needed something that exercised my grey matter into finding solutions for challenging situations. (and consequently earned more for my employers - normally adequately reflected in salary....)

All the guys I know who generally have a few classics & modern bikes use Peter James , BUT I think you may only be able to put one modern on the policy

Yes, that was indeed the case when I initially wanted to add my modern bikes to my existing 'classic' policy but had no problem adding them a couple of years ago.
It seems that their 'classics only' policy has changed but to contradict my 'very knowledgeable staff' comment in my original post some say it depends upon who you get on the phone..

Thanks for all the replies

Having spoken to some more companies today, the problem is not with the classic bikes but my new Gixer Thou (the value as well as the 200+ bhp!)

I found this out by having sensible but brief conversations with Footman James and Peter James, who whilst couldn't offer the cover I wanted, were both very knowledgeable & informative

As a result I will stay with Adrian Flux - who also insure my motorhome
