Just looking
Hi Members,
I was not going to purchase a motorhome due to the costs. However I have now found a possibility that will help my wife enjoy her twilight years with all the necessary requirements for her comfort.
The Motor home I am looking at, has 2 single beds and a drop down double bed and is the 2010 Pilote 733FD
Does any one know the rural mpg one can expect for 2 occupants?
Your help will be most appreciated
Thank you all
David

We get around 25mpg in our 2.7 l Frankia i7000bk. It’s based on a Sprinter 416 and is a Sprintshift. But my son tells everyone that I have a featherlight right foot when I’m in the driving seat.

It is great to receive such support from members more like a family Thank you
My last assignment a 3L manual and returned around 23mpg. A bit more on a long run eg. to south of France.
I was quoted 17 mpg, so rather worried about running costs I appreciate your help Thank you
I have owned two three litre merc autos, and I would have thought you should achieve about 24 mpg on average but so many variables.
That is great news and such a quick response late at night. I was up checking on the central heating as I was concerned about the temperature going to -15c in the Highlands, fortunately it was only -9c at 3 am so ran for 2 hours

Pardon me for asking the following intrusive question.

I appreciate that you have said that you travel light.

However, many newbies to motorhoming fall into a trap, not of their
making but arising from the inability of salesmen to explain the rules
relating to exactly what the prospective owner knows nothing about
and usually either they don't know or are sales blind to the obvious.

ie. Could I ask if you have C1 on your licence. I know you have said that
the van has a weight of 3500kgs but Pilote didn't put a 3lt engine in it
for the good of their health. Without knowing the van, could I ask if you
are aware of what the Payload is?

Our Burstner which looks similar and the same as your potential buy had a weight
plate of 3500kgs on it as well but it had been downplated to 3500kgs to
allow the previous owners to drive it on an 'ordinary licence' ie.
Non C1. I had the C1 so up-plated it back (and beyond) to give a safe payload
I knew that it's payload had been seriously compromised by 500kgs as a
result. The joke at the time was the previous owners had restricted themselves
to nudist sites to save on weight.

I'll be delighted to read on here that you know what the payload is but
unless you know and you have the right licence, the wheel could come off post purchase.

Thank you so much for your advice on C1 related to pay load etc.
I have been a practicing optometrist for 40 years plus, and deal with the problems of patience's restriction with the C1 regulations every week.
I also have been in a family that designed and built caravans in the 1950's for our own use, when there was very few manufacturers around.
Plus caravanning myself for 40 years only in twin axel units and I am well aware of weight distribution. We bought our first motorhome, a 6 birth, in1988 after spending 6 weeks in Europe with our 5 children. We returned to twin axels in 1998 as the kids had grown out of the fun of motorhomes.
I really appreciate you taking your time to write such a detailed response to my query and I hope other newbies take on board your kind advice.
That is what I love about Motorhome Fun members, like you, that it is a tremendous source of information from the enthusiastic members helping others, not make a mistake, from their great source of past knowledge they pass onto prospective new owners.
Thank you so much.
David
