The garage in my motorhome is going mouldy around the periphery of both doors. There doesn’t seem to be dampness anywhere else in the garage. Could this be condensation from the gas-fired space heating? Any other ideas?

Thanks…Keith

I would expect a gas fired heater/boiler to have a balanced type flue, where the burner intake and exhaust are to the outside of the vehicle. If so, there should not be any condensation from the burner.

No, as said heater can't do that, looks like damp to me.
Is your Hymer as Exsis, if so I have an idea.

I'm convinced that mould will only develop in heated or dark unventilated areas suffering from condensation.
That's exactly where you would grow mushrooms. :Eeek:
Constant ventilation is the key. IMHO:clap2:

Looks like condensation to me would build up on the aliminium frame. Clean it off with hg mould cleaner then keep your eyes on it. Now weather is improving if it returns could be damp rather the condensation.
I have the same issue with the garage in the Le Voyageur - a bit of not very good design and a thermal bridge. Only an issue in the winter time, so I use silica gel bags that I regenerate in the microwave

No Lenny.

The grey and fresh water tanks are forward of the garage, enclosed in a shroud which I assume is for air heating of both tanks.

I do have an ongoing problem with this ( noted previously) because the grey water outlet pipe is leaking into the void, but I don’t see how this is relevant. I don’t know how to fix this either. There seems to be a plate screwed to the rear of the shroud that might give access to the area where the pipe drains the grey water, but it will need up on ramps to investigate.

Looking at both problems maybe damp air in the shroud (which should normally be dry) is somehow vented to the garage?

It won't be the problem I was thinking of which was tank overflow (cap working loose) into the underfloor well in the garage.
I would have thought It must be damp that is causing it.
It looks ore intense on the lock side of the door are you sure the door seal is not leaking slightly, quite common on Hymers.

Thanks, Lenny, but been parked on site in Spain for 7 weeks. We’ve had some rain but I don’t think that’s the source. The door seal rubbers look good. The mould is worse on the starboard side which may be significant but I don’t yet know why.

As far as I know Kenny. I’ll empty the garage when I get home in a week or two.

Are you storing wet things in a packed garage?

If not it looks like door water ingress, have you tried tightening them up? On our Hymer(2006) you could adjust the “ keeper” to tighten the door a bit.

This means there's moisture in the air from the leak which is likely condensing on the door frames due to thermal bridging. I suspect that if you sort the leak, clean up the damp marks and well ventilate the garage for a while it won't return.
