MOT's for vans abroad (1 Viewer)

Hi, We are new members, just joined today. We are fulltiming in France at the moment, but our van is due it's MOT in Feb, back in the UK. Does anyone know of anyway round this, by getting a test done abroad, preferably legal. Thanks, Rod,Jan,Ria

Hi Rod if the vehicle is regd taxed and insured in the uk then a trip home to the ports is your only option
otherwise you need to reg vehicle were you are and comply with local regs

That's what we thought, but worth asking just in case. Have to say though the thought of Feb in the UK doesn't inspire us. Thanks for the replies and thanks for the 'fulltiming' link ScotJimland, will have a look now.:thumb:

Or.....buy an MOT certificate.

Plenty of them around in Spain, available from "the guy in the bar" at most English-frequented bars on the Costa Blanca (alledgedly of course.....ahem).

I could send him half a dozen blanks free if he wants them, unfortunatly the paper version is no more than a recipt for the test, and is totaly worthless (we dont even have to lock them up anymore) if it aint on the sytem it aint got an MOT

Of course buying an MOT in the bar invalidates your insurance in the event of a claim.

if just caught without insurance

"Beware that Spanish police, particularly the Guardia Civil, are taking special care to find drivers without insurance in order to help them rectify their situation. Now, there is even an agreement between the insurance industry and the police that allows the latter to check the records of the former in order to identify uninsured vehicles.

Are you aware of what the policy is against drivers without insurance in Spain in the event of an accident? You may want to think very seriously about the consequences of Buying an "MOT"

PS on a good note those dweeby looking handsfree ear pces are ilegal when driving in spain, just in case anyone thinks they look good wearing one, have you noticed that they dont show them being worn in adverts anymore, even models look daft wearing them oh:

Many thanks for the suggestions. Don't think we'll look for the guy in the bar though, unless he's getting the next round in. We like to sleep soundly at night, so not interested in a dodgy one. Looks like a cold Feb in the UK. Any suggestions where to make a run to in March to warm up? Knaus680:thumb:

It is never a good idea to invalidate your insurance!
I did not know about bthe ear pieces, are you sure this is correct and why?
