Cook has decided that although she never learned to ride a bike she would like a etrike. This is something am looking into on ebay. My problem is, although I have a perfectly good bike, am a little worried that cook will leave me stranded on her powertrike. So, my delema is, buy an ebike, buy a kit to convert my push iron or buy a kit with a small petrol engine to convert said push iron. Am not interested in the legalities of the petrol engine conversion as I wont be using it in the UK and have used Spartamets and Solex for years in Europe with no problem. The petrol conversion is much cheaper than the ebike kits, so am leaning towards that at the minute. Has anyone any experience of these kits.

We are just about to sell Sues etrike once we have done all our duties involving travel, collecting our new van and ferrying elderly relatives around the country so we can have some time at home!

Its a pretty much mint Batribike electric trike with the frame tilting facility, meaning that the rear wheels both stay in contact with the road when going round a corner. It cost nearly £1400 a couple of years ago and has travelled I believe 28 miles from new. I think she will be asking £795 for a quick sale? No proper sales photos yet as we haven't got round to putting an ad together. This is it on the photo of Sue though...... (my orange Batribike will be going up for sale soon as well).

Stop being a Woosie Mr Snowbird...

Lose weight and pedal your current bike...

If Pat shoots off in front of you she can buy the first round, all ready for when you eventually arrive.

But if you want to acquire a Velo Solex, I know where I might be able to get you one, providing, that is, you can come up with sensible money.

If Cook gets a legal peddle, it will cease power around 15mph.
Al you need to do is be able to go faster and you can leave her behind!

Firstly, cook thinks of herself as royalty and does not carry cash, she would just order up two pints for herself and a half for me and I would be expected to pick up the tab.

Secondly, have you seen the price they are now asking for a Solex in need of full restoration. I should never have sold any of the damned things.

Thirdly, how long have you been a member of weightwatchers

The thing is, it then becomes a motorcycle, with all the restrictions and associated laws..

I have already covered that in the original post.

I saw that, I thought anything over 50cc, was classed as a motorcycle and not a moped, could be wrong though, I've lost touch with the varios motoring laws..

I have no idea what the law states in European countries. I do know they have always turned a blind eye to the likes of the Velosolex.
As I would only be using the infernal machine on cycle tracks along the banks of rivers etc, and not on the road I dont envisage a problem with plod. If in the unlikely event I did have a problem, the immortal words "Excuse me am English" generally works well .

But 'infernal machines' may not be permitted on cycle paths?

It is compulsory for Saxonets and Spartamets to use cycle in Holland, so am presuming its the same throughout the rest of Europe.
If my presumption is not correct I will just revert to "Excuse me I am English".

Well thats that sorted. I decided the motorised kits were a little noisy and after watching a few Youtube clips am sure I would have finished up in A and E before long after fitting the sports carburettor and turbo kit :sneaky:.
So have just ordered a nice sit up and beg Dutch Gazelle Orange C7 Impulse for delivery when we get home.

Phew, that was a bargain. I expected to pay around £600 for this and even put a bid of £800 on it to secure it as herself had her heart set on it. £330 won it. It has a good sized carrier on the back for beer shopping so it should save a bob or two in the long term. It just means a slight diversion of a couple of hundred miles on the way home to pick it up.

If cook has never ridden a bike before an ebike may be a risky thing for a first bike. The trike May be a good idea .

Well, the old girl has done me proud. Started off with a bottle of champers at the Reiler Hof, then moved on to the Villa Sheimer boutique hotel/restaurant. Five course menu with two bottles of Riesling and am now off for my afternoon snooze, I dont know what came over me, but I just feel a bit sleepy.
