Hi there, can anyone recommend a camp site right next the the sea / beach please? Accessibility is important too so that my wheelchair can get me to the beach from the site. Thank you!

You don’t say where you are but…

The closest place I can think of isn’t really a campsite, but if you go to Praa Sands you can pay into the machine to stay overnight in the car park, which is hard standing. It is right above the beach and you would be able to wheel to the slipway to gain access to the sand.

I doubt that you’d be able to park right at the front overlooking the beach, because the owner has ’regulars’ that stay each year. However, they are a friendly bunch once you get to know them and the car park attendants might be able to get you close to the slipway if you ask nicely.

Good luck.

Sorry, we’re in the UK in East Midlands but we’re looking for anywhere in the UK really. We’re new to camping with our motorhome and any advice or recommendations are much appreciated. Thank you ☺️

Where do you want to go, we use this one in South of France, right in the town , all flat, very often no one but us , right on the beach free.

beach access must be difficult in a chair as many have steps down even when theres a chair friendly prom i was going to reccomend dovercourt but theres steps down to the beach

Seacote Park is a large(ish) static site at St Bees on the Cumbrian Coast but they have a small touring area right on the sea wall.

You are pitched right next to the sea at the end of the promenade but would have to go back up to the site entrance and then down to the lifeboat station to access the promenade.

Blackrock sands Porthmadog, the sand is quite compact too and the sea is shallow for a good distance.

Alternatively you could camp nearby and park on the beach by day (but leave your vehicle up by the high tide mark)

Cheers
Red.

Black Rock Sands in North Wales. You may not be able to get directly onto the beach but it is not far to the beach access road. Sands firm enough to park on so should be ok for your wheelchair.

It is not far to the beach from Uphill Marina along the access road to the beach. This is another beach with expansive firm sands and one can park in them in the day.

Brean beach near to Burnham on sea. We stayed in the local Camc site but whilst walking along the beach we noticed a lot of cars and some motorhomes parked on the beach (day use only I think). Could be the answer.

Haven Burnham on sea has a rear gate with access to the prom and there is a jetty on the beach which would give you wheelchair access

There are loads of great beaches in Merseyside.

Crosby has a carpark, promenade and two slipways, although you can't drive on to the beach.

At nearby Ainsdale, you can drive on the beach. An all-day ticket is a tenner, I believe.

Ctosby is an ideal base from which to explore Liverpool by train. You can park overnight in the spots I mention in my guide.

Thank you! That’s really helpful! ☺️

There is a site behind the sea wall at Brean,Somerset called Channel View and one we use is Sand bay caravan and camping ,kewstoke, weston super mare where my wife can access the top of the beach on her mobility scooter

Calshot in Hampshire. It used to be a member only site, but it has now opened up to all.
It is on the beach, but a pebble beach. Facilities are not the best, but the views are lovely

We visited here in our 4t Motorhome could drive and park on the beach with no issues, can also recommend 👍

Another vote for Blackrock Sands. Huge, under-used (even in high summer) sandy beaches.

There are two camp sites with good access, and the road that the sites are accessed from, literally drives onto the beach, ideal for buggies and wheelchairs. Or if you prefer, you can park on the beach itself. No height restrictions.

Just make sure that you come via Porthmadog. The SatNav might take you the back way. I've driven that way in a car and it was hairy. I would say that it is impassable for a motorhome. A campervan might just make it though.

chaser
Can't see any in that area on Google maps that do not have height barriers
This is the one and you are right, they are closed here, but as we have only been in September 2018 and 19 it could have changed.

Sky Sea campsite Port Eynon Gower, just west of Swansea.
Less than a 100 yards to beach on tarmac from site and there is a gently sloping wooden ramp on to the beach.
£30 a night no EHU, £35 with EHU.
All facilities on site.
2 pubs that do reasonable food also less than 100 yards from the site.
I go there often.
In fact I'm off to there in a couple of hours 😃
