We have purchased a motorhome which has Motorhome WIFI installed, from the company of that name. Have been in touch about a suitable SIM but they do not seem to want to answer either phone or email.

It is the 5G Ready Compact we believe, there is a small black HUAWEI compact router which is detachable, we need a SIM for the router and are looking for advice as to which one to buy.

I have a Vodafone contract for my mobile where I have 150GB per month. So, in the UK if necessary, we use my mobile to access WIFI although this would be a useful alternative. We were abroad last year a couple of times and relied on my Vodafone Mobile. I bought the European Pass and therefore was able to access my data allowance for £1 per day. Vodafone have a fair data allowance of 25GB per month. The first time we were away our usage was only around 10GB, primarily in Belgium and Germany over a month. However, we did not stream too much on the computer as our satellite dish managed to pick up the TV. The second time we were away we were in Belgium Germany Denmark Sweden and our usage was 45GB. Obviously as well as the European Pass cost, we did incur additional data charges.

The Vodafone contract gives a reasonable amount of data, but we would like a SIM for the WIFI that would enable us to use either so as not to incur excessive data charges.

We would prefer not to enter into a monthly contract as our European trips are not that frequent, so a Pay as you go is attractive, something that we could easily top up as and when. What would you recommend. We note that Smarty do a data only Pay as you go, we have seen reference to Popit and there are also the usual suspects. We are not that Tech Savvy so something simple.

Thanks all

You surprise me about the comments re no replies. They were always excellent at customer service and I believe Addie was a member here too although I don't recall his user name

Maybe they are preoccupied managing their dealer network, though they still offer direct sales to the public, so you would expect their customer service channels to be running. As the Big1 says above, we know them to provide excellent customer service. So don't give up too soon. Are you using the right contact details direct from their site?

I think all of their units allow sims of any provider, So you don't really need the company to advise you. You'd be better off with Funsters doing that. For me in the UK now it would be a Three Sim or maybe EE. Going into the EU I'd choose Poppit. (y)

Yes we were surprised as well since we had heard how helpful they were. Rang several times in the end there was a recorded message saying to send an email, the gist of which is above.

Thanks, I read a thread on here about issues with Poppit and having to use it in your phone or doing something a bit techy before it would work, is that right and if so does that apply to all of them.

Yes, I believe you just have to use it here a couple of weeks before you leave (y)

Thanks that's great, is it simple to set up the first time
Yes ....I had difficulty because I didnt identify some code or number or where to enter it. Cant quite remember now. Once I sorted that, it was easy. It was me not finding some sub menu on the router, from memory. Our router comes with a separate usb cable which allows you to take the router out, charge it elsewhere if necessary. Certainly much easier to set up with it dismounted. I think it came with sort of instruction leaflet, and I found more set up info on the mifi site which whilst not a perfect match for ours was helpful.
I used Smarty in part because it has a monthly contract that can easily be suspended, even for several months, and its easy to change package - we had no idea how much data we would need.
