I Make Schoolboy Errors!
Does anyone have Tesco pay monthly (mine is unlimited) in a Huawei E5795, and does it work reliably?

Can't get mine to connect after one solitary night use when OK. And yes there is a fair signal.

Have input necessary tesco apn settings but system hangs on connection or occasionally says contact service provider - half hour phone call got me nowhere.

I have it in a 525s, runs without issue.

USERNAME: tescowap
PASSWORD: password
APN: prepay.tesco-mobile.com

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Red.

Thanks those are the settings I have.

There appears to be some hidden fair use policy tesco people don't know about that means can only be used in a phone or tablet not the router device?

Nope, mine is in a router, I was streaming TV through it before leaving for the hospital.

Are you at Thetford or Hereford?

I assume it’s a data sim as distinct from a phone sim.

Apologies if this is too basic a suggestion!

Should be at both. Currently at Bring and buy.

But if I'm not able to use it need to resolve within any cooling off period.

Did you always use in router or was it activated in a phone first.

Have had no sense calling the tesco helpline. Was exactly like the adverts on radio they say they don't do of "have you tried waving it about"

I think this might be the problem for tesco. Sold as unlimited, checked for restrictions but they missed what I could do.

There's clearly no issue running Tesco Unlimited monthly sims in a router as you've had two responses in a matter of minutes stating they have no issue doing exactly that.

I have always run this sim in a router, never in a phone.

Have you tested your sim in a phone to check it can send and receive data and make calls?

Edit..You have 14 days cooling off, Thetford is 5 days away, if you want we can swap the sims in the routers to see if it is the sim or router.

Yep the sim works fine in the phone. Tesco sim from phone doesn't work in the Huawei.
It worked for one night but since then doesn't and I've been in thee different places since.

I am advised by motorhome WiFi that settings are correct but worryingly they also sent me a link to a hidden policy no one knows about that implies can't use in a router.

If your at the being and buy flog it to someone with a phone only use ;)

I put one in my huawei router and it wouldn’t work, so took router and card to the Tesco shop and they were unable to get it to work, so obtain a refund,
I am using the the Spanish Vodafone card that hasn’t missed a beat since arriving back from Spain, plenty of links on here about it,

So definitely a problem with the Tesco sim. Have just activated the Smarty Sim that Motorhome Wifi supplied and that has connected straight away, no messing about.

Shame the Tesco Sales staff and support centre people don't seem to know about Tesco's own policies, as linked nto me by Motorhome WiFi:

using a Tesco Mobile SIM card other than for the purposes advertised, described in any user guides, or instructed by us or using a Tesco Mobile SIM card in, or connected to any device or hardware other than a mobile phone or tablet. For example, using your Tesco Mobile SIM card in a router for broadband;

Now to do battle with Tesco and cancel the contract :(

My tesco sim works fine in my Avtex wifi system. It always has. However i recently ventured deep into Galloway where only vodafone works. My router hated the vodafone sim as did my back-up Netgear dongle so I had to dig out an older huawei dongle and it worked no problems in that. Seems even routers have the ‘marmite’ issue as well

Having finally spoken to someone probably uk rather than overseas based, who clearly had more awareness of the tesco mobile systems than being stuck with a script, the sim is cancelled. It would appear that Tesco don't outright ban use in a router but they do design and check for compatibilty with phones, thus router use isn't guaranteed to work, some do (surprise surprise the call centre chap's did) but many don't and it's a bit pot luck.

I tried a tesco sim, it worked in phone and mifi but no way would it work on 4g in either. Tried it several places in both devices. Now with O2. Working great in phone, haven't tried it in mifi yet.

We had a similar problem with a gif gaf sim in a router, in the drop down provider box we naturally selected gif gaf. Took ages to work out that we needed to select O2 the provider Gif gaf use.

This was using the settings specific to Tesco. And the router was correctly displaying it was trying to use 02, who is the carrier fof tesco. Quite sure different sims need different settings depending on supplier and carrier. Lesson learnt is that these things won't be clear till you try, just wish I could get back the many lost hours trying to work out the problem.

Maybe a faulty sim but our Tesco sim works just fine in the Motorhome Wifi router.

Tesco support is pretty useless. We needed in Pin unlock from them a while back and never got it. binned the SIM in the end

We were using ours for roaming and it was wirking fine but now won’t work.
Works fine in the phone.
We’re using a netgear and it requires the apn settings originally they were there to choose but all gone 😱
Anyone using it for roaming with the apn so I can input it in.
Thanks in advance.

VPN would have made no difference since the router itself wouldn't connect to the mobile carrier. VPN hides a point of origin and exit for traffic but still needs a connection for that traffic to be hidden from.

Would you know if the Tesco apn would work out here. It’s not what I would normally choose on the netgear think it’s o2 or Vodafone but I have tried the Vodafone one and that dosnt work.

The correct apn settings are in post #2 above.

I can confirm this also. I had a new Pay Monthly Tesco SIM delivered yesterday, it worked in my phone but not in my Huawei E5577 router.

I added a profile under the SIM settings menu using:

USERNAME: tescowap
PASSWORD: password
APN: prepay.tesco-mobile.com

Works perfectly.

We did the same, Tesco data SIM wouldn't work in the Huawei. Rang Tesco and they said won't work in mifi's. Got a refund.

However some on here have said they work.

We’re in Europe thou
And it was working perfectly but on the Vodafone apn.

We are in France and working fine using the Tesco APN on Huawei mifi
