Following on from last nights Big Garage big payload which got sidetracked about vehicle theft. So in an effort to get some reliable information I did some digging around and found some data from Hpi ltd a company that records information on vehicle accidents, outstanding hp debt and theft. This data involves vans and light commercial vehicles irrespective of what body is fitted to them. As expected the Transit is the most stolen vehicle, but then again as it is consistently the top selling van perhaps that’s to be expected. Other makes selling big numbers of vans like VW and Mercedes have a prominent position in the chart. I couldn’t find any specifics about motorhomes and you have to pay for info from Hpi ltd, but safe to say nothing is safe and everyone needs to fit various visible and invisible devices to try and prevent theft.
@Two on Tour for your information.

Thank you for you time trying to justify you point brought over from the other thread and as you rightly say, not motorhomes and as you said in the other thread that there are a lot more Ducato based motorhomes than Transit based motorhomes and I think you have indeed proved the point that your more likely to have your Transit based motorhome than your Ducato based motorhome nicked. Admittedly the above light commercial figures indicate there are 3 times as many transits stolen as the ducato, but at least @Crazylegs has sought some form of evidence.
"9 out of 10 motorhomes stolen are transits" is not factual in the slightest.

I wonder what the percentage of transits sold equates against the percentage stolen ?

I don’t know any facts regarding the subject of theft, but something I thought of is, presumably professional thefts are for vehicles that they can move on or harvest parts from.

Let’s kindly call other thefts amateur and they want the vehicle to “ joy” ride in.

Which have the highest occurrence amateur or professional thefts.

Do thieves prefer commercial or leisure vehicles.

I would have thought smallish PVC’s such as the VW transporter would be the vehicle of choice as they can be hidden and worked on whereas A class and coach builts would be inconvenient.

Just my unprofessional thoughts....

Currently there are...

998,371 Transits (all years and variants) taxed for the roads in the first quarter of 2018

77,664 Ducatos (all years and variants) taxed for the roads in the first quarter of 2018

Thats around 12 Transits to 1 Ducato.

Strange that there are only 3 different percentages. and 5.9% covers the majority(7 of 11)

Me is thinking 'Fake news'
Only 17 or 34 vehicles in the survey according to my maths
