We have a 2017 AutoSleepers Kingham, which currently does not have a tow bar.

I would like to fit an easily removable scooter rack for say 170 kgs, which is sufficient for a Vespa 300 GTS and my bicycle (if it fits).

I have considered the Al-ko, which looks the part and good quality but its capacity is only 150 kgs.

The Easy Lifter, which looks less good, but that could be the website quality rather than the racks.

Armitage Trailers, they look a good option, but are in N. Yorkshire, which is 250 miles away, so would need me to take a couple of days off work.

So can anyone recommend a company in the South/Southwest who would fit the necessary.

I realise that the Moho needs replating and I will be putting her on a weighbridge very shortly to start the process.

Thanks.

I'm assuming your Kingham in the Maxi heavy chassis in which case you'll have a front axle capacity of 2100kg and rear axle capacity of 2400kg so you should be able to uprate to 4250kg without any modifications - search the forum for those who've done it as there is a cheaper alternative to SVTech.

Before you start going down this route though put the camper in 'holiday' trim mode with everything loaded/filled etc as you would do if going away, including all passengers etc and go to a weighbridge and get the individual axle weights then you'll at least know if it's worth/able to be done as you'll need a good bit of payload left especially on the rear to carry the scooter and rack and anything else you take with you.

I don't know if it's a Maxi Chassis or not, but I'm assuming for the time being it is. The first thing will be weighing her, my brother in law works with HGVs and can operate the weighbriidge close to our house and knows what is required for the weighing of individual axles.

I know it will need replating as the payload is only 433 kgs

Easy way to check what chassis it is, just look at the vin plate and it should say something like:

3500kg = MAM
6500kg = Train (ie towing a trailer etc)
2100kg = front axle max
2400kg = rear axle max

You're on a Maxi heavy chassis then so it's just a simple paper exercise to uprate to 4250kg which is good news! (y) You still need to do the weighbridge check though JUST to make sure you've not got a heavy rear end already! :D

And remember that a 170kg load on the rack will impose a higher load than 170kg on the rear axle because of the cantilever effect. Actual load will depend upon the length og your overhang and the wheelbase.

I had an easy lifter and hated it. I was always looking in the rear view mirror thinking it was going to come off. As it sits on the tow ball there isn't much support apart from the ball itself and 2lugs.i swopped it for a PWS rack (they are base in Poole) and bolted it on , much more secure. my bike weighs 140kg put that with the lifter and that's a heck of a lot of weight on your rear axle. Your best bet is the Alko or try in PWS poole http://www.pwsacc.co.uk/scooter-racks.htm
