Hello,

I am a total newbie to motorhomes but have experience as a mechanic

My motorhome pump does not work, as far as I know, it has not worked since purchase as I never thought to check it

This is a 1999 Autohomes Wayfarer, when I fill the water tank the level was picking up, when I turn the taps the pump light comes on but there is no noise and obviously no water

I read that this could likely be an air lock, so I took the shower head off and sucked on the pipe for a while and I can hear some bubbling, although I sucked on this for 10+ minutes and still no flow or pump noise, I then checked and the water level of the tank is no longer detecting and the pump light is no longer coming on

Any ideas what could be causing this? There isn't really any motorhome repair around me

Hope you can help, thanks!

If you know where the pump is it might be worth getting hold of it and feel if it is running.

Have you still got water in the system or is it all on the floor underneath, if it is check the frost valve isn't open.

Martin

I should add, if you don't know where it is it would be worth finding it.

The pump seems to be inside a large sealed black box, I can't see it visibility and the box doesn't seem to come apart, though there is literally 0 noise

So that sounds like a submersible pump inside the water tank, pressure switch or microswitch controlled, if it's microswitch you will find a couple of wires coming rom each tap.

There will be a way into the tank.

It sounds like the pump is not working despite the light coming on, you can usually hear it start when a tap is opened.
There must be access to the pump for replacement / maintenence,, is there a large screw cap on top of the fresh water tank ?

With a 12V multi-meter and your 12V power on { pump on } open a micro-switched water tap and find the black and red 12V supply to your submersible pump- there should be 12V at this point, if there is your pump is faulty if it is not running. Replace pump if that is the case.

Have a look under the sink at the tap for two thin wires coming from the tap.
If present you have a microswitch operated pump and very likely inside the water tank.
It could be the switch have failed, the pump has failed or a fuse has blown.
If there are no wires you have a pressure operated pump and it will be somewhere outside the tank.
It WILL be audible if its running even if there's no water present.
If you can't hear it it's either failed or a fuse has blown.

Ok I exposed what I think is the water pump, the picture with the black tank is the water tank, I screwed the plate off the top and all the hoses look good, the waterpump seems to have all the hoses connected and looks normal - the light is still no longer coming on after I sucked on the shower hose(I didn't think it was possible to blow a fuse by doing this), there is 0 noise from the metal cylinder in the picture attached

Difficult to see properly but that ISN'T your water pump. It's too big.
The pump, if it's an external pump, is the size of a pint beer bottle.

I think it may be the hot water heater, I cannot seem to find a pump anywhere outside or inside the vehicle, maybe that's the problem :ROFLMAO: I can't seem to get the fuses out to check, they are black circles that a flat head/coin fits in but they don't seem to screw out

The pump will be inside the van but may be inside or outside the water tank depending what kind it is.
If its outside the tank... Usually metal bodied with a black plastic valve block on one end with two blue (usually) pipes and two wires.... Nothing else.

Most if not all vans have a switch to turn on the water system. Do you? Does it light up?

The pump light comes on when I open one of the taps --- or at least it did before I sucked on the shower hose to see if it was airlocked, the pump light no longer comes on
