I am thinking of buying a van based on a 2002 Iveco daily with the 2.8 engine rear wheel drive and will be grateful if anyone has one of these and could give me some info such as fuel consumption, power and anything else (sensible info please). (y)(y)

We have a 2006 (which is probably a 2005 Iveco build) Carthago motorhome built on the Iveco 60C15 and weighs 6 tonnes. It is 3.6m high and very flat fronted therefore not conducive to returning high mpg.
Engine, which is the 2.8 delivering 146hp, has been re-mapped and I have an Excel programme where I record mileage, fuel mpg etc. Current average is 18.52mpg but can vary between a low of 16 to highest of 21.16mpg depending on weather. I get better results in the summer and have always got a better mpg abroad from all of our motorhomes. I drive between 50-55mph so obviously the faster you go the more fuel you burn.

Hope this helps.

the airs thinner in europe thats why......thought everyone knew that :)

The Iveco a good choice me thinks, sory no experience with one, but the 4x4 chassis a nice option I always thought.

I have an 1996 long wheelbased Iveco 2.8 Turbo Daily van.

The best vehicle I have ever owned... shortly to be decommissioned because of the expense and complications of re registering in Portugal.

28 mpg when driving steadily.

why not sell it in the UK a vehicle as famous as that should be kept on the road

Worth much, much more to me in bits.

4 solar panels, Steca30 regulator, Sony Mex HD sound library system, 4 Bose speakers with passive sub woofer, B2B battery charger, Air Ride suspension assisters, Conrad Anderson cruise control, Smev 4 ring/grill and oven, Propex Malaga 3E hot water boiler, two CAK water tanks, Shureflow pressure switched water pump, front swivel passenger seat, Aqua Pure water filter, Gaslow refillable system (stainless steel pipes) and a Man City Souvenir Cup Final programme to list just a few bits.

After they are removed THEN I will sell the van here in Portugal where they don't know about SORNs.

We had a 2002 Laika on the Iveco with the 2.8 and our normal weight was 3840kg and we were getting 25-28mpg.

Was service manager for an Iveco dealer for a while and never had a single problem with any we sold or prepped.. Bomb proof engines.. ((Get the 120HP one )) The "high cube" would make a great base vehicle for a M/H.. Not aerodynamic, but neither are most M/H's..
Plenty of dealerships abroad..

Hi my Ambulance conversion is based on the iveco 2.8 td 4.2ton I am not the slowest of drivers :)but when I check mileage (brim to brim) I get any thing from 24 mpg to 31 mpg (mostly average 27)depending on how much I drive around once I arrive (use it just like I would use the car)It pulls like a train and very rarely has to drop down into 4th gear on all hills (y)I often wish for a 6 speed box but I have had spies out for the last 6 yrs and no luck yet -I have spent money on it, ABS sensor problem new starter and a alternator (prob £300 the lot ) and apart from service I cannot remember anything else -Oh tires not because they needed replacing simply because I got 6 new wheels and tires for £60 each -not bad in the 8 yrs I have owned it (y) and yes I would recommend one to anyone (y)
After reading this back why am I looking at Fiats and Crafters for my next conversion for my self -I should stick with the Iveco (y);):D

Is the Iveco 2.8 a timing belt same as the Fiat 2.8 or is it a chain the same as the Iveco 3 litre?

Paul.

Iveco 50c 18 3litre 5.2t Hobby with a big alcove like driving a brick really and I usually have a small box trailer on the back , the worst I have had was into a headwind using cruise 16-18mpg, got a bit more sensible since then and get 20 - 23mpg, BUT, usually do 60 - 64 mph. I would not swap it

Its quite new with low mileage and a lot of stuff is already in to make a conversation easier. Its still not cheap though.
