Our motorhome has a GVW of 4.25t. What class is it in for MOT? I'm guessing class 7?

CLASS 4 like a car,, (y)
You just need a garage that can take the size...

As far as I know all councils must operate an MOT test centre but, its not an advertised fact.
A bonus is that they don't hunt for work, just a proper MOT test
on the condition of your motorhome.

Took my van conversion to our local Citroen main dealership and they told me I would have to go to the MOT bay up the road because their MOT bay wasn't big enough !!

Most MOT lifts are long enough.... Its the lifts 'safe working load' and height which are the problem.
County Council depots are ideal if they do MOT testing as they have both lifts and pits for their own vehicles and are obliged to provide the service to the public.

This might help- just scroll down to Council MOT’s. You’ll probably need to call first to see if they can fit you in:

I was under the impression local councils, being government departments, had to charge the rate set by the ministry for transport.... £54 if I recall correctly.
Private garages can charge less if they want, its their loss.

I think you’re correct, Pappajohn. However a private garage I use does not charge me £54, but less (at their discretion obviously), which I’m quite happy with.

And did you know M o T stations get negative points deduction in their QC inspection from the DVSA
And even more points lost if folk travel from their area to you

I thought 3 to 3.7 tons falls into class 7.

Halfords have test centers with 5 ton lifts that do motorhomes. look at website
All motorhomes of any weight are class 4.
Even the big yank tanks at 11 tons which are built on a full truck or coach chassis .
They are classed as a passenger car.
Class 7 is a goods vehicle up to 3500kg
