We are having more problems with our wipers on our A class Hymer on our trip to France Spain and Portugal. Drove into Portugal from Spain in heavy rain and one of the wpiers has decided to try to sweep some of the bonnet rather than the screen. Looking at it the arm is loose on the spindle so I am hoping it could be an easy fix. I am hoping that the wiper not the spindle has partly stripped

From memory there is a well respected firm of mechanics in the Faro/Loule area who speak English. Can anybody give me their contact details please so that I can see if they can help me.

Many thanks for any help you can give.

Got a bag of tools Lenny. The trouble is me using them! Can't see a nut unless it is under a cap at the base of the wiper. It is peeing down in Tavira at the moment so not looked that hard. Does the blade just pull off the spindle?

Just had a look at mine if it's the same, pop the cap off (I used a kitchen knife) then there is a nut holding the blade onto a tapered spline. If it's loose you should be able to pull it off & reposition it.
If its tight you will need a puller too risky levering it off when it's mounted through the screen.

Many thanks Lenny. Between the rain showers I checked it and it was on a tapered spline. Took it off, repositioned it and tightened it up and now is working as it should. Mind you the splines are a bit grunged after it slipping when we're driving in the rain, so it may not last long.

You can always wrap aluminium foil around the motor spline before refitting to help with any wear on the spline. Nut done up tight should hold it.

If you tighten the nut up well and use some thread lock it will probably outlast you.
It's only a fine spline just used to position the arm, it's the taper that holds it tight.
