On and off for many years.
Both MH and car are insured through AIB, they are brokers.

I found they don't remind you when the insurance is due for renewal and you have to check the paperwork VERY carefully but good prices :)

we are with AIB, just renewed, they did remind me a few weeks before and came up with alternative cheaper options. I agree that 1800 miles sounds low and we have limits on total mileage and days abroad, but no split between UK and abroad mileage. Price sounds good, we found that by dropping our value to below £50K it has saved us £200, new firm do not insist on alarm or tracker either, maybe another benefit of value reduction (y)

AIB advertise on here, I am confident (hopeful) they wouldn't get a renewal of the advert if they have not given good service :)

Another AIB customer here, second year now and have UK & European breakdown cover included. Limited mileage to about 5,000 which is sufficient even with a big Euro tour in the summer and I *think* it was about £200.

Every one of our trips round France has been over 1800 miles and we have done almost 9000 miles since we picked the van up in March.
Mind you, we are retired and get away a fair bit. I suppose if you are still working and restricted in your time away those mileage limits might be adequate.

Richard.

We became AIB customers this year purely because of their good price... we'll see what next year brings

I have three vehicles with AIB, they got each of the cars onboard at renewal time after I went to them with the motorhome. Initially they placed the cover with Aviva as did Comfort my previous broker but since then have moved to a firm called Markerstudy, no I'd never heard of them either but there's no point in being loyal these days whether it's gas and electric, banks or insurance. We'll see where we go this year. They usually call me a week or three before renewal, Darren, if I remember right.

Morning Richard

Have you got an annual mileage limit on your policy? We found that dropping from 8K to 6K at renewal which is closer but still more than we did last year made over £100 difference, so by implication had we gone up to 10K or more there would have been an increase in premium

Glad you are able to use yours like I hope to soon (y):)

Hi David Jen just did our insurance with SAGA yesterday, she upped the annual mileage to 8k from 6k and it stuck £20 on the premium, it came out about £370 but £100 of that is breakdown/recovery.

We have been with them two years now but never claimed so cant comment on that side, we know plenty of others with them and the premiums are very competitive.

Not sure if you are going to Europe or not ? But 1800 miles is not that much, I used Safeguard and paid an extra £50 or so and got unlimited everything! Apart from new van replacement if you go over 15k (from memory).

Hi David
We are insured with Safeguard so no mileage or time limit either here or in Europe.
Unlimited glass cover too which is important with an A Class plus breakdown cover.
I estimated 5k miles in the Uk plus 7k miles in Europe when I set the insurance up but they are just guess work and apparently don't effect the premium.
Premium was just over £400 but that is on a new van valued at £92k
This is the first year with Safeguard but renewal is coming up in a months time so then we will see what happens.

I think you may have got a 'new business' discount there. Our van is valued at 60K and I have just changed from Safeguard to Comfort because the best Safeguard could do to renew was £480 (and we hadn't made any claims). Would be interested to know what your renewal quote is.

Agree with others the 1800 miles abroad is paltry, last year we did 2 trips one was 1800 miles only northern France, 2nd one was over 3500 miles.

Just got ours back... 10k miles, including 180 days in Europe (within the 10k) - £443.. MH Value £55k. £100 Excess..

Just need to sort out the Recovery Side.... What do people do, include it in on their insurance, or do it separately ?

With some insurers it's an option, usually much cheaper than a stand alone policy.
Others like Safeguard it's included in the price with no option to remove it.
There is also the CC Red Pennant which is well regarded and will cover medical expenses as well but is a fair bit more expensive.
Whatever cover you decide on make sure it will cover your size van for recovery. Some will only cover up to 3500 kg.

Richard.
