Just renewed ours early with Safeguard as we'll be away when it's due in mid-May, got quite a few quotes on line and on the phone but nothing came close to them even with discounts, the only downside is they don't cover bicycles at all as too high a risk - as our bikes are over the covered amounts on those policies that include them anyway there was no point in changing for the sake of it for a lot more cost.

Quote was £366.60 including Legal Assistance at a cost of £32.99 but reading the blurb all this appears to be is a payment to another company for any future work needed to get back mainly what we'd be entitled to anyway without their involvement, so decided not to have it which reduced the premium to £333.61 including full UK and European recovery. If we find that we want legal help there's nothing to stop us paying for it then, or use one of the free ones, can't see the point in paying for it just to give Safeguard some commission for selling it to us now! To us it's a bit like the PPI 'scandal' ... most people opt for the Legal Assistance cover without actually reading what it is ... not a lot in reality! A nice little earner for the companies!!!

The problem with legal expenses cover and it is in the small print, they will only take on your case if "they consider it to be winnable " so just when you need it it's not there.
