Evening all,
My Motorhome Insurance is up for renewal soon, and I am looking around for competitive Quotes.
I was wondering whether any of you seasoned MH/ers know of, or had dealings with an Insurance Company, called Scenic, based in Horsforth, Leeds. Looking at the Footer from their Quote, I see that they are part of the Swinton Group. Any advise, and Information regarding them, would be gratefully received. Thanks again.

Safeguard are in Horsforth and underwritten by Swinton too I believe. Seems too much of a coincidence?

As I understand it, Swintons are an Insurance broker, rather than an actual insurance company. As such, they do have very knowledgeable access to a very wide range of insurance policies from different companies.

I recall some years ago, returning from an assignment in Germany with a LHD company car, the local Swintons office were the only ones who could find reasonable insurance for it in the U.K., by knowing an insurance company which did not ask the question of RHD/LHD!!

many many years! since I was a kid
just today i had to reinsure my motorhome. safeguard, part of swinton underwritten by aviva on renewal asked £649 so i rang around and best price was nfu direct at £435. rang safeguard and they discounted to £600 but said give their sister company scenic a call as they are underwritten by somebody else so may be cheaper for a lesser policy with restrictions and omissions

i went with nfu after spending a couple of hours clarifying everything was covered at such a low price

I have just saved £180 by switching from Saga to NFU. The only slightly irritating thing is that if I hadn’t up-plated to 3700Kg the breakdown cover would have been included free of charge but at that weight it is excluded altogether. That said, I got breakdown cover through the CMC for £20 less than through Saga, so l saved £200 overall :)

The NFU branch which specialise in MH insurance is their Chichester branch. Their comprehensive policy is essentially a car policy which excludes breakdown recovery for weights over 3.5 ton. They quoted me half the price that my Safeguard renewal amount is, but they won't recover my vehicle.

Apparently they do a lot of business with Southdowns Motorhomes, especially for bigger brand new A class vehicles, which dont need recovery initially as they have that facility included in their new warranty, well thats what Christopher Johnson of NFU Chichester told me.

2006, MOTOR CARAVAN OVER 3.5T & 2001, 0cc, UNKNOWN, UNKNOWN

When debating my renewal with Safeguard and requesting a quote without breakdown they suggested I talk to Scenic an associated outfit that do quotes without breakdown, waste of time as the quote without was more than with.

In the end used a Comfort quote to beat Safeguard up on price but stayed with Safeguard as refuse to use Comfort as c@&p breakdown service.

I have my renewal coming up with comfort. They confirmed that recovery covers up to 12m long vehicles in uk and europe. I will read the small print.
Why do you say they have a bad recovery?

Their prices are great, their sales people fine the policy looks good. An actual recovery was awful took a very long time, sent the wrong size vehicle, couldn't find us, denied we had anything more than basic recovery, took us till very early hours 1am to find someone to help at Aviva. Basically, very stressful completely unnecessary and a lesson in how they operate.

Comfort via Aviva did not setup our policy correctly with RAC, we needed an Aviva policy number which comfort did not provide. Comfort sort of apologetic eventually but we had to argue the issue with their customer service, they wanted to blame RAC accepted no responsibility themselves. So if I have a choice I avoid them and the RAC. :)

Im almost certain comfort recovery on my policy was with AA.
You've obviously had a bad experience and what appears to be passing the buck.
Not good.

Not good.
Just checked the notes of my complaint, it was all back in Oct 2014 (good grief time flies), 7.5m 4.2t Adria and the recovery company was RAC. My main issue with Comfort was that apart from setting policy up wrong, we contacted Comfort first (17:02) and they confirmed full entitlement and then handed the call directly to RAC who then denied entitlement at 19:00, comfort now closed. I think on the whole we were unlucky and althrough stressful we did get recovered but took 8 hours to be collected from A11 roadside. Could happen with any recovery company if policy setup incomplete/wrong, not sure how you check other than pretending to breakdown.

Sorry for wondering off the OP subject, but it still rankles after 3 years, I thought I had moved on but obviously not :)

Been with Comfort for several years now, entirely happy both with price and service. Only breakdown I needed assistance called them direct, they took my details then handed me straight off to RAC. Van arrived in 25 mins after 2 calls checking we were okay and safely parked. Diagnosed quickly and took us to a garage (still driveable) who got straight onto it although having to wait for parts couldn't complete it until the next morning. RAC man even offered to find us a hotel but we arranged to stay overnight in garage compound. Well satisfied.

The only reason I would now think about changing is that Comfort have started charging for a Green Card, which would add over £200 on our trip to Morocco.
