Hello, I am a new motorhome owner and wondered if someone would kind enough to explain the weight label on my Hymer B754, as shown. The V5 states the revenue weight is 4500KG Gross but the "Max. permissible mass" and "Mass in service" fields are blank. Many thanks in advance.

Thanks very much. Does that mean the max weight of the vehicle with everything in it should not be more than 4500kg?

Your v5 does not tie up with the label on the van. Has the van been upgraded at some point?
V5 at 4500,. Label at 4200

Is there another label elsewhere on the van? Our upgrade created another label which we put in the garage.

Not more than 4200 kg.
and you can’t use all of weights for axles , as that would take you over the weight.

No, your max weight is 4200kg.
Adding the axle weights together will be 4500kg.
Each axle is slightly higher to account for uneven weight distribution.....but the 4200kg gross weight can't be exceeded so combined rear axles at max 1500kg each (3000kg) the front axle must be no more than 1200kg.
It's a juggling act.

As your V5 says 4500 it has been uprated there should be another plate, have a look in the drivers door step surround a common place to put them.

..... And if you passed your UK driving test after 1997 you will need to have taken the additional C1 test.

Without a C1 on your licence, you can not drive anything PLATED at greater than 3,500 kg

Looks like the max weight in all the above posts are wrong.... Its NOT 4200kg.
As well as the max weight being uprated the train weight (van and trailer combined) may have been reduced..... Converters have strange ideas.

Ours shows 6000 gtw on the plate but 6,700 gtw on the v5 the Iveco plate shows front 2.300 rear 4.650 max and a train weight of 9.000 there are no other stickers or plates it was this weight from new.
A pal has the identical van and his came the same.

I have had to recently research the meaning of 'Revenue weight' which is a UK addition to the standard format of a Registration document as item [Y] on the V5c the [ ] brackets denoting its being specific to UK. This was necessary to educate 'Johnny Foreigner'

The legal definition of Revenue weight is based on maximum weight, which in short legally comes down to Maximum permissible mass, Max. Permissible Laden weight etc. according to when documents were written.

In my case, as in yours David, the max weight is not stated. My Revenue weight was written as 3850kg but the latest-dated plate(being the definitive one) stated 3500kg. I contacted the converter(N&B) and they readily supplied a new plate at 3850kg as they had proved that was the weight for which they had authority.

In your case I would contact Hymer for them to confirm the higher weight and do the same. It might be better to change the V5c to get it to reflect the Max weight for anywhere outside the UK, but definitely get the plate changed. I understand that Hymer charge for a new plate, whereas N&B, also Hymer Group, did not.

I will be writing further in a new thread about the contents of the V5c and its relevance outside the UK.

If you get stopped and weighed they will go by the plate.

I really appreciate all of the replies - thank you very much everyone. I am still confused though. How do I obtain a definitive answer, assuming that is possible?

Decide what gross weight you want.
If its 4500kg you need a plate to say so. Either make your own! or go to a company like sv tech or john ruffles to get one. More info on both if you use search box at top of page. This will be £ 2-300. They are both engineers recognised by dvla for replating vehicles.

If you want 4200 kg get weigh bridge cert and send to dvla with request to change to 4200. They will need weighbridge cert to be sure van is useable at 4200 after loading with all your bits for a trip.

Stufe 3 (on the plate) denotes build stage three.
I would expect stage three to be the final stage of build so its either a misprint or the V5 entry is wrong.

Agreed, we have
1 fiat plate
2 alko plate
3 hymer plate.
1&2 are under bonnett, 3 is on skirt by rear wheel.
As we uplated twice since Hymer plate so we have plates 4 and 5 as well from John Ruffles, we mounted those plates in the garage.
John provided a Design Weight Certificate with all details and the "plate" for the van. Dvla required sight of the design weight certificate to enable new v5 with new weights.

Not if it's been uprated and he has not found the 4th plate or previous owner didn't fit it. If it has been uprated it could be difficult to prove, if done my SV Tech they may have a record of it.

As the V5 says 4500 and it is well within the axle loadings I would just get a plate made. You can get them on eBay for a few quid they class them as show plates as a legal plate has to be supplied by a qualified engineer.
