LHD Hymer exsis-i
I would like to add a Bullfinch external BBQ point to my 2011 Hymer exsis-i motorhome. The most convenient point to access a gas supply is the existing 10mm feed to the Thetford fridge.

I would like to do this by replacing the existing 10mm straight connector (shown in BBQ_orig.jpg) with a 10mm/10mm/8mm 'T' junction. This would only be possible if I could reuse the existing nuts/olives shown in 'BBQ_olive_nuts.jpg'. Is it possible to tell from the photographs supplied whether or not another 10mm fitting would be suitable for this

An equal T piece would do the trick but try to fit an isolating valve somewhere accesible to isolate the bbq point.

It can be isolated using the fridge isolating valve. Isolating valves are there in case you need to work on the appliance(s) they serve. In the unlikely event you actually need to make use of it it's not going to matter that the fridge & BBQ outlet are turned off together.

Incidentally if you do find out what those gas fittings are called and where they can be obtained please let me know. Every time I've needed to extend I've had to make my own adaptor to UK fittings.

Are UK fittings different to continental fittings then?

Very. UK fittings are normally brass and are (or were) piped using copper. The UK fittings from 8mm upwards are standard plumbing stuff. I'm familiar with most pipe fittings but not the stuff used on Continental vans (including my own). I'm in the happy position of owning a lathe so I can make adaptors fairly readily & so far it's the only way I've been able to do it. One small thing worth noting is that although the steel pipe is a standard size it can only be used safely with olives intended for that use. Copper or brass olives don't adequately 'bite' into the steel pipe so there is a (small) risk of leakage. Otherwise it would be simple to cut off the steel in the area of interest and use UK fittings. There is a way to overcome the olive 'problem' but unless you are happy with solderering capilliary fittings there's no point in describing it.

Incidentally it's only a couple of weeks since I did the exact same job, connecting in the same location, on my own van.

i am following this thread as on my sunlight i have the same fittings and wish to also fit a bbq point

I've given up on trying to do it for our next trip, I'll have to get a new Camping Gaz bottle:(

If there was anywhere relatively close I'd pay to have it done, has anyone the contact details for the breakaway from Premier Chichester?
