What's the best corse of action for external cracks.

Recently bought an old motorhome and found some areas of concern :(

It's got a fiamma security handle on it that someone has clearly over tightened at some point.... The area behind feels dry and stable but need to do something to stop any further water ingress. To be fair the area it's in doesn't see much water run off so hoping for the best.

I'm not sure the van is worth completely ripping apart and repairing at the mo, but need to stop any water driving in when moving in the rain at least.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

As it is a crack, you could drill a small hole at the end the end of the crack to stop it going any further, then cut out any lumpy bits before filling and rubbing down. I do not think it will mend itself and given time it will get worse. Perhaps removing the handle will reveal more of what is going on.
Just to stop water getting in here, wiping over with some type of grease should work but this could create problems when you come to paint/fill the crack later.

Personally I think I would remove the security handle and make two small circles of white PVC or aluminium sheet that I would then Sikaflex over the entry holes and the cracks. I would also want to check the panel inside for rot and water damage.

The overtightening could be due to rot in the internal frame that has made the security handle loose and then somone has overtightened to try to secure it.

I'm not an expert but have carried out DIY damp repairs.
