A peek in Streetview appears to confirm they were driving the wrong way down an inclined one-way street with a sharp corner. Best guess is as they rounded the corner something was coming up the other way, they swerved right to avoid it and dropped through the stone wall onto the other sloping road leading down to the beach, hence the state of the motorhome's front end.

A nightmare for all concerned, and one can only hope for speedy recoveries.

Another look at Streetview just up the road might explain their wrong turning - they may have come out of a short one way section onto a junction where their only legal alternative was a sloping lane with a 6' width restriction. I'm wondering if they went left for that reason.

Under the circumstances reversing was the better option, but on hot days in a foreign country we've all had to make snap decisions. I suppose the message behind it all is take your time and think. I genuinely sympathise with the driver as well as the other victims.
