Hi everyone. Just joined the MH owners community two months ago. So far we’ve explored the whole of our driveway ! Hopefully we will at least be able to travel out of the area soon !

Looking for some advice on two subjects. First I’m looking to buy a MH cover for the Winter. Our MH is officially 7.3m long. A lot of the covers are 6.5m to 7.5.m or 7.5m to 8.5.m. Is it best to go for the larger size as the first sounds a bit tight, but I also don’t want to have excess material flapping about. Any suggestions on make ? Leaning towards Maypole but happy to take recs.

Second question what does everyone do about condensation ? We’ve taken all the soft coverings out but showing around 80% moisture in the air.

Look forward to your help and advice. Thx.

My guess is that a cover would worsen any condensation. A lot of people leave a vent or two slightly open.

Never had a cover but the thought of trapping dirt and letting it rub on the paintwork does not appeal to me.

The cover lovers will be along soon.(y)

Guess we are "cover lovers" having had many years of experience of various types! :roflmto: Only if it's the right kind of cover used with care though.

Hi & welcome! Shadowfax as mentioned above covers are a bit controversial on here & if you search you should find all you need to know from both points of view. Here is one to start you off https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/winter-covers-for-motor-homes.180115/#post-2934348 Maypole covers need to be snug fitting & strapped securely so as not to rub so wouldn't go bigger than needed.
Most motorhomes have good ventilation already built in so we clean ours thoroughly, remove any food, lift cushions & bedding away from wall edges, leave cupboards & fridge slightly open & all has always been well. We do use a dehumidifer for a day or two after cleaning to remove any moisture (that we have added by doing this) if it is in cold weather. Some like to remove bedding & clothes but again we haven't found this necessary. Many years ago we used a greenhouse heater for a winter & our electric bill rocketed so don't do that any more!

Welcome from Ciren!
We don’t use a cover as we try to use the ‘van all year round......and taking one off/putting one on would be a pain in the @rse! ;)

Hi Guys...It is a"Marmite question' that you are asking ..hence some of the answers you have got on here.
We have a "Protec" fully Made to measure and comes with two colours and a dome (Satellite ) cover and solar panel in clear for the winter sun to do its job. All built in ! We did not buy it new although it had not been used. It was purchased by the original owner of our truck and the receipts show a fair sum of money spent on its manufacture. We have had ours under covers since the 2nd week of November. I have been up to the truck 3 times since and a lot of the other motorhomes and caravans on the storage yard are covered with tree leaves and algae already. Ours is still spotless! Its a bind but its well worth the hassle of putting one on especially if you are surrounded by trees etc.
Buy the best you can afford...don't buy one that seems ok to find out its the wrong one later? Think about it and buy once!

Regards Kev and Carolyn (y);)

Greetings peeps welcome from Bexley

Not for us, saw the damage to paintwork on Dads car years ago and vowed not too use one. As stated before you don’t cover your car.

I'm sorry to have to say this but having spent a small fortune on a made to measure cover from a reputable manufacturer (who has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread) and covered our van last winter, I won't be using the cover again. It was easy to fit (and remove) and kept the van nice and clean and there was no condensation problems (but I did have a dehumidifier running as well). So why not using it again? Two things - firstly the cover wore through in two places in less than 5 months and secondly, as pointed out to me by the professional valet that shone the van up for us at the beginning of the "season" it flatted the paintwork in several areas. The maker was less than apologetic and having failed to warn us of any of these possibilities or appear to accept any reponsibility, did concede enough to send us some pipe insulation and repair material. So, cover now in loft and will be sold on with the van if and when we sell it.
