Hi all - we will be storing our 10 year old motorhome outside over winter outside on a farm offering storage - would a cover be a good idea? £700 from pro- teccovers which look good
Some say that they damage the van by trapping dust and moisture and grinding at the paintwork. I have never had one and would probably never have one.
Others will differ.
For the last 20 years covered every motorhome we’ve owned in winter since we live in area where nature rules - snow, frost, torrential rain and gales quite common. These have been Hymer, Hobby, Rapido and Cathago. Always covered when scrupulously cleaned and never had any damage major or minor. Very up lifting when removing cover in spring - sparkly vehicles. But covers were all bespoke and Protec. Only criticism is folding and storing after use. Now have Specialised cover with extra large storage bag plus door and rear access.
Our experience with using a mototrhome cover was not good and we will not use a cover again on a motorhome that's parked outside, the reason why, well we used a cover over winter to keep the muck and grot off and although the cover was tight on the motorhome the wind moved the cover about and rubbed through areas of paint to the aluminium on the corners of the motorhome. The cover was not a cheap one, it was a Royal breathable with a soft flock type lining.
I have never used a cover when left in storage. If the manufacturer of my motorhome thought covers were needed they would offer them as an option. Their winterisation guide makes no mention of covering when in storage.
