OK its not the motorhome but a pressure washer, soon as I switched it on the fuse popped, and again, and again so I thought something must be wrong, guessed the pump might be seized so took apart but all OK, motor spins OK so then I looked inside a box of tricks that is all a bit of a mystery to me as it not mechanical.

Anyway even to me this didn't look right ;)

It has popped it's cherry and grey stuff has squirted out of the side,

I am guessing its a capacitor or something for the motor start current, so what do I want and what sort of place will I get it from.

Thanks in advance, I know you won't let me down.

Take the numbers and you should get one off e bay i did for my pump martin

You may find them cheaper on ebay

Soft start cap yep..
Some of the switch on voltage is used to "charge" this instead of all going to the motor in one hit.

OK thanks all (y) will order Monday now just got to put the pump back together but the oil is a a mess so maybe its all been worth doing anyway.

On a capacitor-start / capacitor run induction motor it's used to modify the phase of one of the two windings. It isn't a soft-start device and doesn't reduce inrush current. The two important parameters are capacitance (70uF) and voltage. The capacitance value is matched to the motor. The voltage simply means it won't be damaged by mains voltage and the higher the better.
