Sorry to bring this up again. I now understand about the revision of MOT. However, what I’d like to kno wis, my car is due MOT 14th april, as yet. Its not changed, yes I now understand that the probability it will change soon. Now the real question. If MOT is extended for 6 mths but lock down ends in June, will the amnesty end too, will I suddenly have to MOT the car or will that not be required until the end of the 6mth extension?

the way it reads is that there is an automatic 6 month extension to the current MOT test, so not due to October, but you still have a duty to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy

If the lockdown ended & everybody needed an mot immediately the garages would be overwhelmed
so your well safe ?

I phoned my garage a couple of weeks ago and they told me about the postponed MOT. Give your garage a call if you want to make sure.

My car MOT runs out tomorrow, but the DVLA site now says October 9th.

Geo?. Posted somewhere recently. to the effect (Roughly) that it was a "Rolling" thing, and could be started /stopped quickly if seen necessary?.

My understanding, and this is third hand, is that if your MOT is extended as a result of the amnesty this will remain as the date for your next MOT. If, however, the lockdown ceases, on say 30th June, the amnesty could be withdrawn shortly thereafter with the existing MOT date post that date remaining. There would probably be around a month between end of lockdown and the amnesty being withdrawn to enable those with an impending MOT date to arrange an appointment.

My vans MOT is due on the 8th of May, just checked my van on this site, still due on the 8th May?
Try checking on the 6th/7th May. I think you'll see differently then. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

My MH mot was due to run out on 5th May. I always have it done with in 28 days of itn runniung out to allow time for any work that may need doing . On speaking it over with my Mot garage , I decided as it was already booked in for last monday (6th) i would still have it done ( they are lterally 2 minutes up the road from me). The reason I decided to contine was that when the ey lift the ban on stay at home there is likely to be a back log of people wanting mots done

I shan't be leaving ours until the extended October date Linda, but will try to have it MOT'd locally near the end of May, which means we are not rushing back from the winter sun (if we get to go there again) just for an MOT. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Just checked mine and all it says about MOT is No details held by DVLA

I was expecting the 1st MOT due by 1st June to be extended to 1st December.

You will not see any date changes for an MOT due 1st June until late May. (y)
And that will depend on the lockdown being in place to late May.

To add to Jim's reply, I checked ours 2 x days ago, and it was still listed as 10th April, so the extension is only being applied 24/48 hours before the MOT is due, not weeks or months before.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Here's my view which is now your Fourth Hand.

The Govn. have decided to extend the MOT date by 6 mths. That's it.

They won't reel in that date if, for some reason, (and it won't) it all ends this week, month (Insert date here).
If they were to do as you have heard then there would be mass confusion, obfuscation and doubt.
In addition, the MOT Stations would be overwhelmed.

I would suggest there's more chance of that date being extended rather than decreased. Having said that, I don't think there's much chance of that either because if it came to us being in lockdown come, say September, we're all in the doo doo.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your response and if I am, apologies.
What I was saying was, if your MOT date is extended by six months that would remain come what may. Wouldn't change to any other date (unless amnesty was further extended) however if amnesty was to be removed, on say 30 June, and your MOT was due, on say 31 July, that date would remain as 31 July.

In my first post on this subject I did hint, no i recommended that you get your vehicle MoT'd as soon as possible, and not to rely on there being no change to the extension. or that things will roll on as normal or expected.

Years of experience with Dept for Transport, Vosa, DVSA has taught me that if i had a pound for every time i was assured this or that would not happen then it did i would not be a very poor man at all
All the info and promises come from DVSA.

All the changes and rules come from above (DofT) and they hardly ever sing from the same Hymn sheet when they do there is very often more than one interpretation.

My main concern for the non believers is, I see on a regular basis what 12 months wear and tear does to vehicles I know what 18 Months will do, and its not all about millage
When this all comes to an end the Garage Trade who have suffered financial loss, will have some simple unpublished decisions to make .
Shall I book in some Mot Test and earn £40 or crack on with with last months failures and earn an awfull lot more
there will be pressures on the MoT system when the time comes for these extended tests to be carried out dont expect to get an test slot at the click of a finger I believe you wont get one without a lengthy delay, You believe what you will
Geo

I thought that there would be a huge backlog of MOT all to be done at once but if once the date is charged it stays as the next due test it will be a lot more manageable. I'm trying as much as possible to avoid being near anyone. If there was an MOT garage where I could take it they would do it park it up for 3 days then I collect it having paid by bank transfer I might do it. Otherwise I would forget it. Apart from anything else if its serviced now then not used for a few months it won't probably be in the best of mechanical health anyway.

All other European countries manage with an MOT every 2 years & first MOT at 4 years it's only the UK that sicks with one year & first at 3 years, due to pressure for garage industry that would lose trade.

Just checked ours as it was due tomorrow, and it's also been extended to October. (y)

Check your MOT status.

Cheers,

Jock. :)
This checking site still shows my motorhome being due April 20th, but they did say it would take some time for that to catch up

Why would i be concerned what happens in the eu my comments are based on experience in the MoT sector scheme management in the UK
also based on facts and not Myths and Hearsay
The decision to NOT comply with the EU Directive to go to 4 + 2 year testing scheme was made by The DofT not DVSA or the MoT trade.
Personally I was secretly hoping it would change, we would have a quiet year followed by many Bonanza years, think about it

I wasn't for one minute saying that you should wait until 5 1/2 months after your present date before thinking about having the MOT. This is an emergency measure to allow folks to go about their day to day business without worrying about MOT's.

Having said that, out of our car I'm getting about four weeks to the gallon and there's loads left yet. (y)

Mine now reflects the new date. Thanks Geo Another question for you Geo if you don’t mind. When the mot is finally complete will it reflect the original date for renewal or the new one?

As Wino suggest that would be the most logical , But were talking DVSA, its anyone's guess

If that's your opinion you have not had sufficient dealings with them
