In this new EU document being discussed are proposals to
categorise defects in terms of seriousness on the fail sheet with Testers given new powers

1. Tester to issue a prohibition Notice (to affectivley take the vehicle of the road immediately):Eeek:

2. Tester to be empowered to impound seriously defective vehicles:cry:

3.Some Seriously defective and failed vehicles may be De-Registered:Eeek::Eeek::Eeek:

A good few EU Directives can and are ignored:winky:
These however are coming in the form of Regulations, which mean they will, if adopted by the EU become part of UK Law:RollEyes:

Interesting comments But
When Mot testing we do work for Vosa
Yes they do pay our wages through their test fee scheme aprox £54 Hr
Testers have for a long time wished they had prohibition authority
You'd have to see to believe some vehicle and DIY repairs we test John
I'd buy a crusher for personel use for some:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I know what you mean Geo.

in my youth we used a local rural/agricultural garage for MOT's.

testers nickname was 'Near enough'....that should give you a clue as to his standards.

if you could drive in without hitting anything the steering was a pass.

if you could stop before hitting the end wall the brakes were a pass.

Lights.......if some worked they were 'near enough' and passed.

cursory glance and a joiners hammer underneath to see if it was full of holes.

never had a fail.

he must be spinning in his box with today's standards

I can remember when the first MOT tests came out - I went to the garage for my first test and the mechanic said 'I ain't got time to bugger around looking at cars - I got too much work to do - anything wrong with it' - 'No' said I - 'well' said the mechanic 'write the reg in that book and pop back tomorrow and I will have the certificate ready for you - I write all the certificates out when I have washed up at the end of the day' :Eeek::Eeek:

Would not want to be the one to issue a prohibition to some people though :hardhat::hardhat:

if it gets to the point of having to issue prohibition then maybe you need to look at just doing repairs as i can see there being some not very pleasant comebacks from some people.

1, 2 and 3:
In all cases, about bloody time!
None of the above are difficult to do, just fill in the form and report to VOSA.
