Since our last MOT of the motorhome we have up plated it from 3500kg to 3850kg and on the tax book it says taxation class "Private HGV" so when applying for this years MOT do i need to select "Heavy Goods ( Gross weight over 3500kg )" or the same as usual "Light Goods ( Gross weight less than or equal to 3500kg )"
and if it is the Heavy Goods test is this test physically different that the light goods test ??
Thanks

The test is the same for all motorhome weights.....even the 12 and 13 ton monsters....class 4, the same as for a car.

The only thing the garage will need to be aware of is the actual weight and physical size as they may not have a lift large or powerful enough to lift it.

I don't understand what you mean by booking heavy goods or light goods.....I simply ring or call in the garage and book an MOT...that's all.

All I can assume is you take it to a ministry testing station rather than a high street garage.

Oh, it's not an HGV....it's a PRIVATE HGV for road tax class only.

You need to select Class 4 - motor caravan (same as a car).

As far as I am aware, the change in weight has no bearing on the mot. You do not need to apply for an mot. Just book it in at your test station for testing as usual.
Hope this helps.

As above just class 4 but make sure the garage you use has ramps / lift big enough to take it.
