I appreciate current Mot's have been extended by 6months but what I can't find out is when Mot's are again due next year will they revert back to 2020 date plus one year or will they be due annually on the new date.

Our first mot is due mid August, would we get an extension and would it apply if we travelled to Europe please

The 6 month extension is only applied to your vehicle (see the DVLA website for your vehicle) a couple of days before its MOT due date.
This will be your first MOT but the principles are:

You can have an MOT done at any time you like and get a year from that test's date.
You can have an MOT up to a month before the expiry date of your current MOT and keep the current MOT's expiry date + 12 months. In other words if you have it MOT'd exactly a month early you would get 13 months on the new certificate.

EDIT. I suspect that with the easing of lockdown the granting of a 6 months extension will be withdrawn before August.
You can check your vehicle's MOT status here:

look it up on the mot checker, .Gov site. if it says August then you will need to get it done before the due date ( upto 30 days before without loss of any time

The ministry are extending MOT's on a week by week basis so if your MOT is due in a months time & you check it on the MOT website it will still list the due date as in a months time but if you check it a week before it's due it will have the extended date due if that option is still in operation. As an MOT station this has been very damaging for our business as people are not having their MOT's done. If people were not using their cars I could understand this but people are still out & about using their cars so why do they not have to have their MOT done? We have had customers drive to our MOT station to enquire when their MOT is due! We see some real horrors when a vehicle is tested and people do not realise how dangerous their vehicles are until it's picked up on an MOT so I would advise having your MOT done on time to keep safe.

Off the two local garages that I can walk to, one is to busy and the other has closed, the owner has taken the virus as an opportunity to retire and is trying to sell, but I think its likely it will be flattened for housing.
No worries though as the mot has been extended to December.

Thanks everyone will get it done next week, shame to lose a couple of months, but cannot wait to go on a long trip. More advise needed please, France opens its border on Monday, will ask uk visitors to voluntarily quarantine, does anyone know of a campsite we could use for 14 days or any kind person with land we could pay and stay with them.

I kept mine the same, Mot'd 24th May. I didn't want to give the insurance co. a chance to wriggle out of paying if someone nicks it.

Depends if the scheme is still running ours came up with the 6 month extension 2 weeks before the first MOT was due.

It will be due 1 year from when you have the mot done. If your van has an extension till October as an example but you take it in for am mot in June, the next mot will be June 2021 ie 12 months from actual test date whenever that is.

Both our cars were due MoT a few weeks after we got back from Morocco. Wife's was already SORNed but renewal date extended 6 months. Strangely when I checked mine had been extended 12 months!

Last month our local garage rang asking if we wanted MoT's doing - they've managed to keep going but obviously looking for work. They offered to come collect and return so booked both cars in. In the end we took the cars to the garage ourselves (only the next village) and they gave us a courtesy car - all freshly cleaned and disinfected - to get home with.

I could of course have waited but I like to make sure the cars are fully roadworthy and May is a good time for renewals. Also once lockdown is eased there'll no doubt be a mad rush.

Both cars passed okay, couple of advisories which I'll deal with in due course.

Thank you for supporting your local business.

Tried to book mine in yesterday for MOT. Was due end of March.

Told me that they had availability in 4 weeks due to most staff being furloughed. I booked it but as I was giving my details I asked what happened if it failed and they had no staff to fix what it failed on.

You can’t use it was the reply.

Well, I can’t do that as I need it to get to work so had to cancel and will wait till they are all back.

i will mot my van next month i don't fancy doing any work on it in the winter i always mot my vehicle in the summer months
bill

Mine was listed at the original date and would not retax, so it got done for that date,It seems it was meant so that you would not get booked for not MOT when parked on the street, sorned made it off street and then due before retaxing????? Cock up come to mind.

If it’s legal here it’s legal everywhere

I had mine MOTed this week it sworn but you can drive to and from the testing station because if I just took the extension there could be trouble booking a test in 6 months time as there will be twice as many trying to get tests the garage I use told me that he is down 200 tests a month

You could ask the DVLA whats happening but they re hiding so completely you cannot contact them unless you are a key worker and even then good luck.

Not much point with that lot, speak to 6 different people and you will get 6 different answers.

Mine is extended until December but I have booked a service and MOT in 10 days' time.

The garage is trying to reopen so I wanted to support them, and get it done sooner rather than in a late rush.

After our nearest Fiat Professional went pop last December my approach is use it or lose it.

My MOT was due a week ago - but according to the .gov.uk check sites - "first MOT due - unknown"...

Go figure
No problem taxing it or insuring it.
