Just for clarity it does NOT mean MoT testing is suspended its in still available to those who want or need one
If your MoT Expired on or before the 29th March you cannot take advantage of the amnesty and MUST get a test to be legal on the road

Thanks on the info..

It is REALLY appreciated, especially as I thought mine was due in May and just checked, Due 9th April

OK being the Scotsman I am (and must admit to being really disappointed in our Yorkshire brethren:RollEyes:) when you get the MOT 6 months from now will it run from then or be backed dated to original date!:whistle2:

My wife brought her MOT forward having anticipated there being problem, so she has lost a month instead of gaining 6. Such is life. However there could be a backlog of MOT appointments in 6 months time so book early.

I have read this applies to plgv, does it also apply to phgv, ie those vans over 3500kg?

Can Geo shine a bit more light please?

More as it comes in--
You may not be offered a Mot Certificate even if you pass the test, You should be advised that you can print your own when you get home
Please pay by card when ever possible and wipe down steering wheel, gear stick and any switches used regularly with anticeptic wipes

Thank goodness for that - our MOT is due 16th April and we brought it forward to this Friday due to other circumstances and the garage rang and cancelled it yesterday, was worrying what we were going to be able to do about it.

To help you make up your mind what to do, I personalty fear the vast majority will think and take up
what at first appears to be a gift from Heaven.
BEWARE no one knows when or how much notice you will get as to the end of this amnesty

When it does end there will be a huge demand for mot tests in your local Areas
we testers may well have a 6 month backlog of tests to carry out and if that's the case you may be offered the earliest slot some weeks or months from your phone call

I would suggest you get one ASAP after more public movement is allowed DONT WAIT ^ MONTHS as tempting as it may seem

As it was unlikely the van would move for a couple of months and the tax runs our end of April, and MOT on May 12th, I had intended to SORN it on the 30th of this month, and retax it on April first ( got to have a full calendar month of MOT to tax it usually )
Now I do not have to bother

We brought the 'vans MOT forward to avoid needing one when abroad in Winter.
Don't think it will make any difference to us. We'll keep it in July/August

Yes he did.
Did he? Where did you get this information? The official .gov site on this says “If your vehicle tax is due, you can tax your vehicle as soon as your MOT due date has been updated” which clearly implies that the tax is still payable.

I wonder whether the Amnesty will be recodnised/accepted by authorities outside the UK.

If under the Amnesty one is driving outside the UK it might be as well to carry a copy of the official announcement with one's MOT Certificate.

No one ever said it wasn't :Eeek:

It will be interesting when everything gets back to normal to see the failure rate for vehicles that have had a longer gap between MOTs compared with the standard 12 month gap. It will be a good measure for the authorities to see if 12 month testing is necessary.

Perhaps I read it wrong but Electraglide said “Hope he altered the road taxing arrangements as well” and mpdcymru replied “Yes he did” and I took that to refer to an amnesty.
No, I fully expected to pay the road tax, but I would only have an out of date mot to present at the Post Office

I took it to mean that you could still tax a vehicle after the mot had run out?
As I already admitted I possibly read the posts wrongly. The .gov site says they will amend the online expiry dates so that the tax can be paid.

No im pretty sure he meant "altered" so as to allow online taxing with effectively no MoT
