I have just read on FB that some of the Morrison supermarkets let you fill up the Gaslow system, I wonder if anyone has done that recently??

Yes, we filled up with LPG at a Morrisons in Derby last November and after fitting an underslung tank to a friends motorhome we filled it at a local Morrisons near us 3 weeks ago.

Yes Morrison’s in Littlehampton do gas but when we went to fill up two weeks ago the pump was closed. Didn’t ask them why but we came back to the Shell garage on the A259 opposite the bog Body Shop building and filled up there.

I’m sure there is one near you but should there not be looking at your East Yorkshire location near in mind the M18 - junction 1 - Rotherham - literally just off the roundabout and they do it there.

We always fill at Morrison’s.
The topic of Morrison’s not allowing the filling of Gaslow tanks frequently comes up but seems to be just some sort of ‘fake news’.

Richard.

We have 2 near us, but not tried filling the gas yet. Might give it a go when we next need some, we are quite wel served with LPG round Hull butone would be impossible to get van to to fill up.

No problems in St Ives, Cambs - filled twice this year. Even said I was going to turn round and fill with diesel and was told that was fine which shows they knew I was not using the LPG as fuel.

I understand Morrisons have signed some sort of deal with Safefill to allow refills on their refillable Bottles. The Bottles look reasonably priced and lighter than standard Calor Bottles. Thinking of getting one for our new Van. Anyone got any experience with them?

@BillyBeckers might be worth doing a search of the forum for 'safefill' as there are lots of comments about them ... you 'may' be okay to fill them in the UK but abroad could be more difficult depending on where you go to do so.

Crewe Morrisons will not allow it, the last time that I tried to fill my Safefill bottles.

That shouldn't make any difference, you are paying VAT at road fuel (20%) rate rather than domestic (5%) rate anyway.

Actually, that doesn't show anything. How do they know? It is possible to use autogas with a diesel engine. There are systems that add autogas into the engine cylinders, to mix with the diesel. They don't run on autogas 100%, but they add a proportion of gas to the mix.

Currently these systems involve expensive engine modifications, and are only economically viable for trucks that do very high annual mileage. But here's hoping they get cheaper, or get built into new engines.

Calor are currently marketing this system to the Haulage industry, The Ploy is that it helps reduce "Emissions" and reduce overall fuel cost. I was recently passed on the M62 by 2 Calor Tank Trucks, ( I am rarely if ever in a rush) both of which had it fitted and advertised on the vehicle.

I've got 2 Safefill cylinders, personally I've never been refused a fill on them.

You can get LPG systems for diesel cars & vans, but the mix proportion is quite low at 30% LPG 70% diesel I'm told. Highly unlikely to ever be worth it for a motorhome, especially as you have to find somewhere to put the tank as well.

I run a LPG car and the total conversion cost came to nearly £2k, but it's on 100% LPG (once engine warmed up) and with it only doing 20-25 mpg and my doing high mileages, it paid for itself quite quickly.

I've not seen trucks on LPG (doesn't mean there aren't any!). What I have seen is trucks and busses on CNG - compressed natural gas.
