It’s not totally clear from the email though if the cover is comprehensive in Morocco

Sounding better Jon. I've rang Saga again and have been told yes! no problem with the green card, however there will be a charge of £25 arrangement fee.
On the strength of that and all going to plan (does it ever) TerryL and I plan to cross between the 27/28th Jan .
:D2
Looks good then Derek Portland

Morocco here we come again.Saga will issue a green card @£25 you need to apply approximately 30 days before travelling in order to receive the form before starting. Plan to cross around end of Jan with TerryL. This will be definitely the last time ! Again.

Is that fully comprehensive insurance or just third party ?

I've just spent the morning on the phone to Saga and Comfort ?. Now in need of a strong coffee?.
Saga are a bit of a trial to speak to because their call handlers are not specialists in motor homes.
Anyway, I got there in the end. I think we'll go with their 3-year, fixed-price policy, which offers enhanced cover, but am going to sleep on it.
Although the Comfort basic price was lower, at the cost of £30 per week for a green card, they work out considerably more expensive.

I know how you feel, however count yourself lucky you only spent the morning doing it. Its strange you received a weekly quote for Morocco when they told me it would be 50% loading on top of the insurance premium. I too have taken the 3 year deal with saga along with a £25 charge for the green card. enjoy your coffee

Having confirmed with Saga that the green card provides fully comprehensive cover for Morocco, I've taken out their 3-year, fixed-price insurance. My NCD is being transferred over from Safeguard. (y)

Because this thread has confused me I rang Comfort this morning.
They are still covering Morocco with a fully comp green card for a fee.
Earlier this year it cost us about £225 .
£225 for how many weeks please?

Sadly webby1 is right! There is no "one size fits all" in the motorhome insurance game. You have to offset one benefit against another, for example breakdown cover - it's often cheaper to take the insurers offering rather than a free-standing policy. And don't get me started about Morocco....................!

Just make sure you know what you need before starting. And when you find the best deal for you, let us know so we can "tell" you about a "better" one! >:)

I know of 2 people who have used the insurance at Tanger Med however I cannot say what cover you get and just what protection it gives you. I suspect its road traffic act only but perhaps you could research this on line

We met a couple recently who go to Morocco every year.

They buy third party insurance at the border for £180

They haven't had to claim on it so couldn't comment on what would happen if they did

I popped into Voyages Normandie (Carlos?) in Algeciras this morning to get their take on insurance, as my Insurers (Safeguard) will not cover Morocco whatsoever and we would like to go over in January if poss.

The very helpful Moroccan on duty confirmed that we could take an insurance at Tanger Med. The only guideline he could give me was the cost would be about €200 for 1 month with longer stays available for incremental charges.
He did stipulate that he could offer this information as a guide only as they are not experts in this field. He believed that cover would only be 3rd Party and it would be provided by a “formal and fully legal” company.

Hope this helps some. We will weigh up pros and cons - no one will offer us Travel/Medical cover - and decide whether to go.

Here’s the email I got back from Sags

View attachment 325855

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your recent contact with our office regarding Saga Insurance Services.

Saga Motor Insurance extends its cover to any country that is a member of the European Union or countries that have made an agreement with the European Commission.

Full cover will also be provided if the insured vehicle is being transported between any of the countries that meet with the above criteria and within the United Kingdom or Gibraltar. The documentation, including the Certificate of Motor Insurance, Policy Booklet and a Green Card should be taken as evidence of insurance for the duration of the trip. This cover is free to the insured and is provided for up to 12 months, however, please note that the policyholder or spouse/partner must be travelling in the vehicle as part of the trip.

Whilst Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey are outside of the European Union , a Green Card can be issued for individual trips to the these countries. Unfortunately, cover is unavailable for Albania, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Moldova and Ukraine.
We will require the following information to be provided to issue a Green Card to Morocco if you proceed with a Saga policy.

• The dates you will be travelling
• The countries you will be travelling through
• Will you be returning to UK as part of your trip?
• Who will be driving the vehicle during the trip?
• Will you be towing a trailer or a caravan?

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us via email or by calling our Customer Services Department on 0800 056 9167 where one of our agents will be happy to help you. We are open to 8.00pm and weekends .

Yours sincerely

Sarah Hopkins

That's written sneakily. If I were a lawyer I would say that this says you DO NOT HAVE COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE with this policy

You have to remember a green card is simply a document that proves that you are covered for 3rd party claims in that country. It is not an insurance policy. I would not accept any policy unless it explicitly said that the Country was covered. The green card is irrelevant in that case. It is to protect others from you, not you from others.

I had an e-mail from Carlos of Voyages Normandy this morning saying there is a rumour Morocco will open up on November 20 but it has not been confirmed. SO, I'm still hoping we can go in January but not so confident as before.

We drove by their office the other day. Looked closed but I cant confirm for sure.
The parking area outside looked sad and quite desolate with only commercial trucks parked there.
