We spent a. Very happy 4 days there about 5 years ago. We were the only van there and only saw the occasional local visiting to have a picnic or to fish.
Most of the blokes fishing were round by the dam catching nowt but a cold. We parked right at the far end round the corner and the fish were jumping out of the water all day. Sometimes it sounded like a round of applause as they all slapped back down in the water!

Think you jinxed me Mike, for 14 days we have not seen a sole on the Barragems and like you have been the only one there till last night

We were parked over the far side like yourself, must have been a French van that arrived at dusk, they like to park close lol

Having a great time at Feria Festival at Le Puerto de Santa Maria, beach daytime party at night, one in the book for next year, took the short ferry ride for a look round into Cadiz yesterday

Moving on tomorrow to El Rocio then into Portugal, it's the big festival in El Rocio in 2 weeks were the pilgrims come from all over in there horse/carts etc, over half million, how long you staying round Castro Marim Daz will be nipping that way in 3 days. Got to say having a better than expected time round here.

Yesterday we stopped at Barragem do Maranhao,

The first spot was good but we checked out mapsme and saw a small dirttrack road about 6km down the way so decided to check it out!

Dirt track not suitable for larger vans IMO ? on a peninsular but another great spot

Popping up to Manta Rota tuesday for a service. Walked up there today from here at Altura. It was full and there were about 20 vans in the car park nearby, so reckon we will not be stopping long there. Just a service then back to Altura for another week on the beach!

Great Daz, our departure from El Puerto de Santa Maria has been delayed a day due to a rather large consumption of alcohol at the Feria last night lol

Popping up to Manta Rota tuesday for a service. Walked up there today from here at Altura. It was full and there were about 20 vans in the car park nearby, so reckon we will not be stopping long there. Just a service then back to Altura for another week on the beach!

Manta Rota was stacked in Jan when we were there holds 440 vans ? many long timers and there were about 20 vans in the car park to the side, We prefer Altura

Yesterday we went to Barragem Montargil great lake about 20km long loads of little side roads leading to the lake, unfortunately there is a sign posted on most side roads banning camping etc.

We drove onto Barragem da Povoa, we were here last year all services and nice bar few hundred steps away, quite a lot of vans here tho, not used to seeing mankind lol the Aire at the top has a lot of British vans, a few we saw at Pego de Alta? we parked down tothe bottom by the lake, will stop here again today then move on looking for quieter gems.

Thank goodness we have got Campa Cola to put some off with his info re the dreadful roads and unfriendly, rude Portuguese people, and don't forget all those police with guns fining motorhomes hundreds of euros for illegal camping.

Just so we make sure we avoid them at all costs! Pm's accepted if you do not want to put the country down too much!

Particularly restaurants to avoid.

Trying our best to tolerate this place while rushing thru at top speed - I estimate it will take about 6 weeks.

We came up through the middle of Portugal all tyres intact no bad roads lovely friendly people and great food. Now doing Galacia for a week before getting boat back fantastic time and was good to meet up @JJ in portimao also @rv8 .

What ever you do, don't go to the Modina Restaurant on the side of the lake at Pego da Altar.

Rui (whose family own, and have run the restaurant for four generations) is
obviously rude and unfriendly and unhelpful as he is Portuguese, as are his wife and staff.

The fact that all of them are always smiling and joking with me and Frankie is irrelevant... they are Portuguese so they must be rude and unhelpful ...

Oh, and despite the place being really beautiful and peaceful and great for walks, the road up to it is really bumpy and will ruin your motorhome!

We are now in a village called Vila Facacia visiting friends,
The weather looks bad all over for the next week, we will probably head out of Portugal tomorrow and head east towards Valencia and hopefully by the time we get there the currant bun will be making a show!!

At Pedro's to chill for a couple of days and catch up on washing etc, watch the Moto GP and a few beers/Wine, nice big room been added at the back with TV Toilets Shower. not been that bad today a couple of heavy showers but a bit of blue sky as well. Normal service by the end of the week

Booked a special order of 'sweaty octopus' at 'Alcatruz' tonight!
Apparently its good. Woebetide trip advisor if it's chewy after 4 hrs cooking.
