We just arrived at Mesnierer en Bray Aire to see this Palace liner just getting onto the Aire. It looked a bit strange because anybody who knows the Aire will know it’s not an easy entrance and he had to have the suspension fully extended up and there’s some good skid marks on the entrance.
British van was at the end but moved because they said it had nicked all there light.

We were on the Gibralter Marina aires 2 years ago and two Spanish plated Morellos parked alongside us while we we were out in Gib. Luckily we were on the sunny side. 4am in the morning we thought a big motorised yacht was going out the marina, it turned out to be their onboard generators. right alongside us. What row!

Row?

Noise of the generators or the argument?

I am sure they are wonderful if you are doing long term and long distance travel.

For a number of considerations (and not "just" finance) it would not be for me. I think I would go for a 5th wheeler rather than a Palace if I was going to do the long term / long distance thing but everyone is different and has different wants and priorities.

The van we have now is (as always) a compromise but it does what we need and after a day or two we are become re-acquainted with the climb into the bed above the garage. It's really just the transverse bed that is the compromise. If we go for longitudinal beds that would add to the van length and there may not be the space in the living area. When Martin gets to 70 we will consider what to do then - probably down plate rather than jump through DVLA hoops - again not an issue with the current van as there will still be enough payload at 3500 kg.

Not my cup of tea thank you. Reminds me of fares please 🤣
My first thought was perhaps it was a contractor's Portacabin. (I was probably thinking of the post by a Morelo owner ( funflair I think ) who posted last Friday that whilst parked an old boy had asked him if he could use the toilet).

No desire for one of those big m/h's; far too inconvenient for my carefree wandering adventures.

I think you would really struggle using a 5th wheel where you could use a big Motorhome.

That is our compromise also.

In addition to the longitudinal bed(s) the more recent versions with that have gone for separate shower and toilet compartment which further reduces the living area - for an ablutions area which two people utilise for a max 30 mins. in a day?

Our sofa is 2m long so we can both lounge feet to feet. I do not see any recent designs like that. Also the tables are miniscule, even with extensions.

I shall just have to keep climbing over Basia for a pee - fortunately she hardly wakes up and goes back to sleep in a minute.

As for Martin getting to 70, unless he has real medical problems, do not be too fearful. I am 80 and have passed 3 DVLA C1 medicals in UK and now one in Poland, including a psychological one(first licence only) where the examiner took my paper away before I finished because she could see I was getting every Q right.

Thats just what i was gonna say and no towbar to take the hit
It will have air suspension though so just jack it up to the "off road" setting and then if it still grounds out it has skids on the chassis to stop it ripping the bodywork off.

Yes, but we are also wandering care free through Germany at the moment and parked on a little rural stellplatz with a 9m MORELO one side and a 10+ metre Concorde dwarfing us on the other side, we look like the poor relations at a mere 8.7m.

I feel your pain; that’s us in the middle! 🤣🤣🤣

Yep, we know the feeling well. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. ;)

Its mad just how big these are when you see them next to vans you already think are big. I mean mine is 3.2m high but these must be over 4 metres

Yes your van and ours will be very similar so, yes, they’re big b*ggers!

Ian

I couldn't even get away from them on a wild spot in France.

Is it that surprising when Morelo and Concorde factory weekends are this week :LOL:, great to see so many being properly used.

Ian bigtwin is that the last Clouliner with the stacked square headlights on your left?

About 3.9m a Empire liner is 3.86 in the book but not sure if that includes air con as standard as it would add a few more inches.
Like I said, it’s illegal if it’s over 4m and would contravene european construction and use regulations.

Sorry Jon I’m afraid I don’t know; if it helps, the photo was taken in 2015.
