Team,

A quick update for you.

Nicky and I have had a truly fantastic day today at Premium. We were hosted by the Co-Owner, Michael, for the majority of our two hour visit and I have to say now that he knows his stuff; an incredibly professional and likeable chappy for sure.

I don't wish to overstate things in this post but we went to Doncaster knowing very little and we've come away with a whole load of very useful info including brochures, price lists, build processes, financial info, specs, payloads, accessories, ordering procedures, German factory visits and shows etc.

Nicky has gone a wee bit crazy and is now trying to establish a suitable colour combo between the floors, furniture and the accessories/home furnishings pack while I'm looking at the technical options and the prices!!

It's clear to me now that some Morelo customers take many-many months to configure the correct layout, van size and spec list before they submit an order but, IMO, this is reassuring to us as we can now have a play with the specs and see how things unfold without any time pressures.

That said, this is not a cheap sport or lifestyle choice but for the first time ever I now understand why people buy them. I'm not saying everyone will 'get it' but we do.

It'll now take a few days for Nicky and I to digest the info but I'll revert shortly with some questions if I may.

Regards to all,

Andrew

OK chaps, for those Funsters who say the Morelo sales brochure is easy:

1. We didn't receive a brochure for our first C-Class van purchase but I know from experience that it was about 20-pages long.

2. Our second C-Class van came with a 20-page sales brochure too.

3. The third van (PVC) was 26-pages.

4. The Morelo sales & options list brochure(s) weighs 1.2kg

Enough said

Spoke to the owner of this one in Maroc, he had a Mini Cooper in the garage. He had the faded front and rear black roof panels re-sprayed by a guy who had all his kit in a old battered Peugeot 205. There seems to be lot Morellos over here, must be all that EU money we’ve donated to their coffers.

Broken Link Removed

Michael

Team,

I have been using Michael's link for a few days now and I can now report that I've Google Translated just about every in-stock van (from new vans to those being 22-months old) which have a price tag of between €325K and €180K.

It has been an incredibly useful exercise in terms of me getting to grips with the prices and specs of German v English 'in-stock' Morelos.

.......and the conclusion for me is that Germany would be the clear winner should we ever decide to purchase an in-stock model. (There are some fantatsic deals to be had when compared to the UK's 'in-stock' prices).

The pre-order system is slightly different and I'm still waiting on a wee bit more input from other sources to see if a German or UK dealer would be the best POC.

Having said all that, I would clarify the point that Nicky and I would potentially wait a further 6 more months to see what happens to the £-€ exchange rate. I have a sneaking suspicion that the Euro bubble will succumb to such severe external pressures next year that the Morelo vans will become a much more competitively priced option etc.

It's a gamble and I could be wrong but that's also part of the fun.

There's now the small topic of insurance to consider.

Caveat: The Morelo owners advise me that NFU is the best proven POC but since I'm already with Comfort then I thought I would phone them today as their web-page infers that GBP£300,000 Is the upper ceiling limit for their policies - see below:

Screenshot_20200219-091234_Samsung Internet.jpg

As it turns out their upper threshold is only £225,000 so not quite the £300K as what their page infers. They are now referring my enquiry to their marketing department as I've suggested that they change the written contents of their web page to reflect their covered values.

That being said, a threshold of £225K still has an equivalent Euro currency value of €270,000 (current exchange rates apply) so I managed to get a quote from Comfort (with alarm and tracker) of

.........£2,722 year.

I think I can do better.

Andrew, that premium is for £225k? They accepted that your vehicle might be more and are not bothered?

Yep, agreed Michael.

IMO they would certainly draw the line on their new-for-old policy limit which would leave us hanging like lemons. Plus there's the exchange rate and other factors too.

The new MY21 Morelo price list will increase by a further €4,000 come September this year so the prices are already heading North and therefore the most valuable comfort policy would not even cover a basic van.

I have a couple of specialist insurers that I use for my cars (They know me well) so I'll try them also.

Otherwise, the only option is to go down the NFU road which will mean transferring all of the car and house insurances over.

Our local NFU wouldn't even 'quote' me for our new PVC (only valued at £64,000 with mods) unless we transferred the Home and car insurances over to them first prior to the quote. There was no guarantee of getting a decent price either.

I do rate NFU especially when it comes to a claim. No quibble instant pay out. That said, we do have our Home and also landlord and tenant insurance with them as well as vehicles.

vehicle insurance comes out at £1224 per annum for a Jaguar XKR, £20k value a Nissan Leaf £30k value and Motorhome £270k value I think that is pretty good (0.4% of total value). Full no claims, roadside assistance on the Jag and protected no claims

I reversed into another Motorhome last year. Cracked his rear quarter light and some fibre glass German guy, very nice about it as it was one of those almost impossible situations. No damage to mine at all. I thought I would just pay rather than Claim but I did phone NFU and reported the accident. 6 months later the German guy s bill comes in at 1300 euros. I phone NFU and say I do want to claim. Money in my account 3 days later

That's a really informative post - very many thanks indeed.

The Morelo guys have already mentioned the NFU process to me but the figures you quote are of particular interest. They're really useful so thanks for sharing (y)

Like many on the forum we have a number of policies, all of which are due at different times, so I'll pop down to NFU in person to present our rather complicated situation.

I'm not sure what is more complicated; buying a house abroad or buying a Morelo.

All the best,

Andrew

I thi k the Morelo is more complicated! A friend of mine made a very serious enquiry at the NEC two years ago - sat with them at the show and talked through the spec etc.

He tried three times to get them to send him the final quote - they never did and he didn't buy - he still has his Flair and will probably change for an RS next year.

BTW I didn't have home or Landlords insurance with NFU when I first insured our first RS Elysian. Only moved to them a couple of years later because at first they would insure the motorhome but wouldn't insure the Jag!

I think it can depend on which agency you contact - we use Louth and they are very helpful and never been a problem.

Hope that helps

NFU currently insure our Concorde with a value of over £100. They have indicated that they will insure our new Morelo Empire when we take delivery next month...and without either alarm or tracker. They don’t insure any of our other vehicles or property. HTH
NFU offer a discount for an alarm and a tracker
So may be worth considering

Yes I’m still in discussions with them about that...it’s only one discount...ie same discount for alarm, or tracker, or both. Currently trying to establish which alarms they accept....

I was quoted 10% for a Thatcham alarm OR 15% for a tracker

Growler isnt listed by NFU . Yes we had Strikeback on a previous van, Autowatch on this one then we were going to fit Growler on Morelo, but NFU say it’s not recognised by then

That’s strange as they accepted it before
Maybe eddievanbitz can confirm the current position

Team,

Some advice if I may please.

Nicky and I thinking about visiting Schlüsselfeld in the first week of March.

I understand from you guys that the Concorde and Morelo factories are just a few km's from each other so can anyone tell me if there are any camping sites nearby (or will Morelo and Concorde let us stay onsite at their factories in our PVC).

I would also like to swing-by a couple of Morelo dealers to view their in-stock models so a trip to Schlüsselfeld should in theory be a worthwhile excersie.

FYI, the Concorde 890 RRL has also taken our fancy so I'm keen to compare.

Any advice is most welcome (and needed!!).

All the best,

Andrew

Morelo have a large new Aire on site with electric. Not sure about Concorde. Also if you are there go to the Phoenix factory too. If you are into Concorde pop down the road to Gluck in Sulzemoos. They are Concorde (sales guy Christian) Morelo (but something has happened they have no new stock and there may be some friction since my sale) & Phoenix dealers, and literally have thousands of vans for sale. Steer clear of a sales guy called Michael Schade.
Binder and Zeismann are big dealers with stock of Morelos. Go to Polch and Neismann Caravans are big Concorde dealers, and while you are there pop over to the N+B factory.
