are there C&MC rules on the number of dogs per pitch??

this is a bit of a grump.... so please excuse me!!

spent a couple days last week in west Wales. I was taking our dog for our morning stroll after breakfast when i thought i was about to be attacked by a pack of dogs......

slight exaggeration,, but the noise was extremely load and there were a lot of barking and howling as we walked along the site road near a pitch.

fortunately the 12 dogs were penned in a temporary low wire fence which had clearly been erected by the occupants of 2 pitches to contain their dogs. I guess they were traveling together.

every time someone walked near the "stockade" there was a load doggy chorus. we were fortunate in that we were at least 200 meters from them and we were only there for 2 nights.

we are a dog owner and he travels everywhere with us so we are not anti dogs but it appears there are NO rules covering the number of dogs allowed per pitch.

How ridiculous!.
Don’t know what the rules are, but three would be my limit.

You can all have the same breed of dog I proposed for 'er indoors ... and it's motorhome size ... the lesser known Great Sir Ramik ... eats little, poos even less and excercise ... move it from one cupboard to another

Owners REALLY should not bark and growl at other campers ... very bad

Here you go this should do it .. Club Rules

11. Dogs and other pets
a. You are responsible for your pet's behaviour. You must make sure your pet is under control at all times; dogs must be kept on a secure lead no more than 2 metres long.

So if they are outside and not on a lead they are breaking the rules. If they do put them on leads they will be forever outside trying to untangle them

Report this issue to the C&MC by email at your earliest opportunity and it would be good if you can keep us posted regarding the outcome.
By doing so I'm expecting you will receive some vouchers to repay the inconvenience caused during your stay.

i did ask the wardens as we left site handing in the barrier key. and the responce was " we have just been discussing the very point, and there is no limit".

i think i will email the club and see what response is forthcoming...

Not being a dog owner I no problem with dogs if they are kept under control.
Last week I was walking along a river walk and a lady in a mobility scooter was exercising her dogs, 10 large dogs. I asked her politely how she picked up the dogs excrement from all her dogs and she told me to f*** off.
I took that as a NO PICK UP situation.

There are some lovely people about. :Eeek:

Richard.
PS. Did you resist the temptation to tip her scooter in the river? :)

Down to local byelaws usually but 6 is normally the maximum & many councils have reduced the amount allowed to exercise by one person to 4.

I don’t think it’s the number of dog that is the problem. It’s how they are allowed to behave.

I hate being on a site and when ever I walk past with my dog, other dogs bark, or more than often yap. I feel really sorry for the neighbours. Why do these people allow their dogs to bark at everything.

How long can they yap before you can strangle them, we were at Bolton Abbey last week-end and the row went on for ages can only presume the owners were deaf? Why do they all have these ridiculous retracting leads allowing their "pets " to visit everyone's pitch without an invite, and do the dogs run any further or faster on these long leads, on C&MCC sites most folk don't appear to know about the two metre rule.

emailed the C&MC raising the points of creating a wire pen for 12 dogs between 2 pitches and the yapping and barking when people passed by and whenever they became excited.

I stated i was not one for "rules for the sake of rules" and explained that i was a dog owner. but I asked if the club should be considering a limit to the number of animals per pitch.

here is a copy of the reply; ( sorry its a scan as for some reason i could not copy and paste it.

one thing i find odd is that they state that a leaflet is handed out to all dog owners on arrival on site.

In the past 11 years that we have had Merlin i have never seen or been offered any form of leaflet regarding dogs, was not even aware a leaflet existed.

the answer seems to be report all dog barking problems to the site staff!!!

moan over..... move on!

Phil, I'm writing here to congratulate you on this excellent post and for taking the time to share with us the reply from the C&MC. Its good to read that the C&MC are trying to educate those less responsible dog owners but I think they need to give the matter a little more consideration because allowing six dogs on one pitch held within a pen who will probably be urinating etc on the ground in such a small area which is normally considered the play area for young families within days after they have vacated site is just not on. I'm booked for a Q & A time with the C&MC shortly and will raise the issue and report back.

If my dog is anything to go by, the six dogs with in a pen, as you put it, won’t be peeing init. They see it as theirs so won’t pee, or anything else in their area.
