MoHo Tax Reversed in Budget

Just heard, they will be classifying New motorhomes as vans once again.

How will it affect Vans registered on the higher rate over previous weeks? Will they still pay the higher rate over the next few years?

So it looks like you are screwed if you recently bought a motorhome at the pre budget tax level. You are stuck with £465 a year road tax. I will surely hit the resale value of the vehicle also

Here’s a copy and paste from the givt budget doc.
looks like lower VED from April 1st.

is it good news as I don’t know the significance of PLGs and Van VED.?

”This measure treats motorhomes as Private and Light Goods vehicles (PLGs) for VED purposes from 12am, 12 March 2020 to the 1 April 2021. Thereafter, new motorhomes will be registered as vans and will be entitled to pay van VED rates instead of car VED rates.”

Gosh, I'll rush out and buy a new MH tomorrow before they change their minds!

And if you bought two, just think of the tax savings you would make (y)

Just make sure the CO figures dont go onto the V5 or you will pay the higher tax!
Doesn't this budget announcement negate that though? as long as it's a motorhome the budget rules should apply.

Amazing news from #Budget2020 in the battle for #FairMotorhomeTax The Chancellor Rishi Sunak has today announced that as of 12th March 2020 the raise of 705% in Motorhome VED and Tax has been reversed! This is a truly amazing achievement for our industry! This means tax for your new 2020 Motorhome will now only cost you £265 for PLG or £165 for PHG per year- just like previously!! many Thanks to The NCC and Robert Jenrick for all of your efforts in this achievement!?????????“

Dont think it does if you put the CO figures in. Thats what caught people in the past with the old, old system where some VW campers ended up with high road tax.

I thought that previously the new VED rules were in place but could only be applied if there was a declared emission figure on the V5, whereas now the VED rules have changed so not emission dependent.

Will keep an eye on it for sure.

BUT..........the document only talks about Private and Light Goods (PLG's).
Does it also apply to Private HGV, ie vehicles over 3.5t?

I should hang on a bit funflair before you flash the credit card. :Eeek:

Richard.

The document says "private and light goods" so I did wonder but take it that the private bit covers Private HGV, the extract from SMC on post #15 suggest both under and over 3500kg (y) anyway our credit card has been well and truly hammered so the only debate is what it's going to cost to tax it.

This says in underlined bit PHG?

Just to add to the discussion re emission figures on the CoC I believe that these will still be present on the V5 as that bit is an EU ruling and is part of type approval.

He all
Would this have been know of as a rumour to the dealer.
We just picked up the Rimor Seal 5 on leap year day.
But did the deal three week earlier had to wait for the extras to be fitted.
I though when I was chipping them it seemed very easy.
We where told if it was on a 20 plate we would pay the higher rate.
So now not sure what rate it is on.
Thanks

If you already have the van registered it will be at the rate that was correct on the date it was registered. There was no mention of back dating it.

I took delivery of a new 'van in mid Feb. The vehicle is Euro 6D and this is included on the V5. However, the CO emissions field has been left blank.

Just tried to look on the DVLA site and it says vehicle could not be found ☹️
I would have though eight day would be long enough to get it on the system.
