Our current Huawei MIFI is slowly giving up the ghost, it only has a wifi range of about 2mtrs and the rechargeable battery only lasts a couple of hours.
So, we're looking for a replacement, not necessarily a mifi, we very rarely take it out of the van and a mobile router seems it would give us more options.
We have a stable 12v supply and a roof mounted antenna so the new one would drop straight in.
Any recommendations around the £100 mark would be greatly appreciated.

I have found the best solution is a VONets VP11G used as a wifi bridge. Then use your phone as a mobile hot-spot or login to a site wifi. The VP11G will work off 12v or 5v. I also use a BT YouView for internet TV. Second hand they are about £15 on Ebay.
The VONets lives connected to the youview in the van.

Have a Netgear M2 with EE sim, 7 or maybe 8 different countries on this trip so far and it has streamed Netflix 4K without any issues.

Looked at an external aerial but have changed my mind as this pulls a good signal without one

Does this have a TS9 aerial connection?
Can I run it from 12v cigar socket

I have a SMARTY 4G/5G SIM with unlimited calls/data & texts. Is there a router that allows me to plug in a landline phone to make use of the unlimited calls (UK use only at present)?
Currently the SIM is in a smartphone that tethers - works OK with calls on the smartphone and Wi-Fi for data to the PC/Radio etc. but I'd rather use a router with Wi-Fi, ethernet and landline].

[By landline I mean what some may know as an old fashioned POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) phone].
Cheers

BT will supply you with an IP phone which is like a modern POTS and will work for you. Comes as standard now that they are discontinuing actual land lines and they sent me one when I renewed my broadband.

Works just like a mobile hands free

Motorhome Wifi system works well for us. (y)

We leave it plugged in and switched on all the time as the power drain is minimal…..the solar is more than enough to top it up. Smarty sim which we can credit when we want.

i got EE to unlock my M2 and can now use any sim card in it - i bought a FREE sim last time in France and like you found, the M2 was ideal. if i leave it permanently plugged in, i always take the battery out !

Regrettably, SMARTY (or parent '3') doesn't offer that option.

Couldn't get our Huawei operating this summer so picked up second hand phone and are using the tethering function which works as good as the Hw seemed to. No aerial facility though. Phone is plugged into vehicle DC for permanent power.

Yes we leave ours plugged in permanently with Tiekom sim and it’s great 👍
We have a net gear air card 790S and is permanently wired in again using a `Tiekom SIM card, been all over Spain, Andorra, France and Italy and no issues whatsoever

It's from a retail outlet called FREE - that's the name of the company. It's 210gb per month for 19.95 euros plus a one off payment of 10 euros for the SIM itself (and setting up I assume) no ongoing contract. I will be trying to start it up again late July. It was a pretty simple process, I got the info etc from a thread on this forum.

Hi, have a look to see if your phone/provider support "Wifi Calling". I use this when in the basement and connected to our works Wifi.

We have that with our vodafone broadband as we have a rubbish mobile signal where we live and it’s the only way to get a mobile phone to work👍

This router just arrived, so I stuck the Smarty sim from my mobile in it to try it out. 28meg download, 3meg in my phone! Excellent so far, easy to set up and simple to use. Now installed in the van with a stabilized 12V power supply. Excellent recommendation, much appreciated thankyou.

gus-lopez Speve . As it seems you both use a TP link 6400 you may be able to give me some advice. I have both a small old Huwaei mifi which is several years old & the TP link . I bought the TP while I was in Spain this winter & used it very successfully with a Spanish sim. I have not used it in UK yet. Here, we often go to areas where reception is poor I have started thinking about external aerials. I have a small window one for the mifi which isn't a lot of use. I am considering rationalising and thought I could perhaps mount the TP link in a cupboard and then also have this wired into an external aerial, considering the ones Motorhome WiFi sell. The problem is that all the info I can find on the internet shows 2 aerials being needed, one to replace each of the TP "wings". Any idea if there is a simple Plug & play solution is available. I think an external aerial would help as ours is a PVC so signal tends to be poor inside van. Thanks

Madmag sorry I don’t have or had a TP link 6400 I bought the complete kit from motorhome WiFi the Huwei b535-333 router comes with antenna and leads to suit it’s a really good bit of kit and in my view worth the money.
I would think if you spoke to motorhome WiFi they may have Adaptor leads for their antenna to fit your TPLink🤔😊

Thanks for your reply. I must have misread your post!! Yes I do intend to speak to MH Wifi as they seem to know their stuff. Stupidly I never thought to ask them that!!!! Was going to ask about full system not just attaching the TPLink. My head is just spinning with all the tech stuff I’ve been reading, I am looking for the easiest system possible. Thanks again.
