Does anyone know of any Mobile LPG Gas engineers in the Sussex Area? I have bought a refillable Gaslow kit and Shirley doesnt want me to fit it myself (probably a wise decision!) Therefore I am looking for someone qualified to do it asap as we are looking to be cooking soon!

LPG Fitting

Try doing it yourself.

The drill bit for the hole in the van body is only £18.

Taking your time it should take you an hour.

If you can change a refillable bottle, you can fit a Gaslow system.

Don't wish to speak out of turn but this post came up while doing a search on google

Sorry but the above is not correct, the gas engineer will require a specialist qualification to work on caravans and motorhomes - this will now be regulated by The Gas safe register rather than Corgi as the HSe has taken Corgi's licence away as of 1st April.
The qualifications I have are:
CongLP1LAV - leisure activity vehicles (Tourers, static caravans, horseboxes & motorhomes)
CongLP1B - Boats
CongLP1PD - permanent dwelling
CongLP1RPH - Residential Park homes
CongLP1CMC - Commercial catering

Usual Corgi engineers and plumbers have CCN1, CEN1, HTR1, CKR1 & WAT1 which cover them for pipework, boilers, fires, cookers and water heaters running on natural gas in domestic homes.

The chief difference for safety's sake in motorhomes are that LPG is heavier than air, unlike natural gas, it also runs at higher pressure. So there are a lot of regulations regarding storage of cylinders and ventilation that need to be considered. Added to this this is the fact that the vast majority of catering trailers, caravans and motorhomes are produced and sold under the factories act regulations, whereas a gas engineer is concerned with the gas installation & use regs 1996, so the first time a gas engineer visits don't be surprised to be told there are improvements required not associated with the job you called them out for.

You can find an engineer at trustcorgi.com at least until the 1st april, after that I don't know if the web address will change.

Don't break your neck to do it - there isn't a lot of call for the work - at least not around Cambridge.

You do not need to be Corgi registered or have any of the qualifications listed by BP&LPG unless the motorhome in question is being hired out in the course of a business. There is a clear exclusion for self propelled caravans (motorhomes in other words) from the gas installation regs. It is wise however to use a competent person for any checks and tests that need carrying out from time to time. Corgi registered installers with the relevant tickets to work on LPG systems in mobile installations are rarer than rocking horse droppings.

Spot on Dave :thumb: ..... There are plenty of engineers out there with ACOPS gas safety certificate who are more than capable of doing the work on your van, you could try here: Mobile Caravan Engineers - Mobile Repairs Service for Touring Caravans Campervans and Motorhome Caravans

Hi, yes I am Geo's wife (or Mrs Borg as he puts it).:winky: I am a co-ordinator and run a Gas Assessment Centre at our College in Mansfield.

You might be right that there is not a lot of work around Cambridge but in the Notts area there are quite a few Motorhome dealers and camp sites. Apart from the conversion from NG to LPG for (PD) Permanent Dwellings, RPH (Residential Park Homes) and LAV (Leisure Accomodation Vehicles) Rob will probably undertake the Caravan/Motorhome Appliance assessments, as he is in a prime position to gain plenty of work for it.

The thought of anyone touching gas appliances who is not 'competent' to do so just frightens me to death. We once had a guy on assessment 'blowing a joint' with the gas on:Doh::cry::cry: and he was already a gas fitter. Needless to say he was terminated on the spot for putting us in immediate danager.:whatthe:

Anyway, welcome to the fun, hope we manage to meet up some day.

"Mark, if they are ACOPS certificated, they have expired. It's now ACS, the last ACOPS finished (I think) in 1998 so their tickets expired in 2003."
I hope not Pammy as I only did my ACOPS two years ago and its valid for five.

Very valuable advice Pammy. Any one smoking a joint and leaving the gas on is bound for disaster.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Gaslow fitted

Well, we had the Gaslow System fitted yesterday. I found a local guy (Nigel Wilson - Wilson Caravan Services 07929508679) who came out and fitted the system. Looking forward to 1st cup of tea at weekend! I was like an excited schoolboy stood in front of the hob with all 4 lit yesterday.
