One of them is the Queen Mary 2. They've all been there, or there abouts, for a while now.
Think we've still got three moored up in Glasgow as well.

Are you not allowed to stay overnight then?

There was quite a few cruise ships anchored off Weymouth when we were there a few weeks ago.

Fred. Olsen's cruise fleet are at Rosyth.

I assume overnighting is forbidden.
If so what can you expect if the local authorities don't uphold the ban.

They've sold a couple of them and they've left for Turkey as accommodation ships!

And bought two more (ex Holland America Line) to replace them. I think the two new ones are undergoing refits

The new ships are the Boulette and Borealis.

When this is over we are going on a cruise ....... if we can afford it round the world. We might even cash in some investments so we can do it. It might be a year or two depending on how my parents are, or even have to wait until my sister is back from China but we are going to do it.

Why do so many moaning local councils stop motorhomes overnight parking.
Surely parking up from 8am-8pm for a small fee will benifit all.
Most car parks after 8pm are underutilised, the same councils will be moaning about failing local businesses next!
Dare I say it, this doesn't happen in Europe. Generally Motorhomes/ Campervans are seen as a revenue stream and welcomed with open arms.
Rant over.

Four off Torquay we can see them from Beverly Park campsite.

We live an hour from Exmouth and were often glad summer or winter to pay whatever to stop on the seafront overnight, now they've removed MH parking we avoid the place.

Unfortunately there are some that are not responsible and spoil it for others plus the local community- leave litter everywhere and use the public loos to dump their waste. Maybe we should take an individual responsibility and self police the issue but thats another contentious subject!

Being a Devon resident, I’m glad to see responsible overnighters staying locally. Good for them!
That’s good to hear. The problem is that “locals” have no way of knowing who are responsible overnighters, and who are not, until it is too late.

It is certainly getting more difficult to just “get up and go” in England and Wales as, especially in winter, official overnight spaces are rare.

Another example of the great work CAMpRA are doing.
This is copied from a CAMpRA thread and shows what’s happening in Exmouth this park is very close to sea front.
The charges have now been changed to £6 for all day and overnight max three nights.
Pay for six hours get 24👍

I was at Maer Road last night. There are two pay machines, the one we all need to use is by the Land Train stop, far side of the car park as this is card or cash, the other is cash only.
To get a £11 Moho ticket press the YELLOW permit button. When screen lights up press yellow button again and scroll down until you find motorhome. Press GREEN tick to confirm and follow payment order.
There are 15 marked bays that are almost level. Some information displayed is out of date as the car park entrance is locked at 7pm Oct to Feb and 10pm Mar to Sept. The one way spiked exit is open 24 hours.A41A4ABA-5F64-4C66-A002-ED5E873D5B08.png3E096C04-A326-4509-A59D-AB7E61406A3C.png0B1A6B98-AA63-4895-9F7C-2BEF67D1AED8.png

I'd like to know how the revenue to the local authority has been affected by the new parking arrangements in Exmouth. Living where we do we could have used either the car for a day trip or the van and stop over. I don't object to paying but one vehicle is allowed but the other is banned so now we won't go at all.

Not according to the pay and display board.

Specifically says no overnight camping in caravan or Motorhome.

No Cooking either

Edit I’m talking about my op for clarity 😊

I couldn’t agree more.
Especially this car park as you could tuck Moho out of the way.

Just as well the public toilets are open as all but one wasn’t S C

That says permits do not include overnight if in a Motorhome you pay for 24 hrs at a time at the ticket machine and not buy a permit.😊
Where does it say no cooking? It says no barbecues😊

You’ve lost me there 🤔

Do the cruise ships keep the engine ticking over or do they shut the down completely?

A permit is a long term parking permit that is available to residents and locals.
You need to read the top sign as its a work in progress so I suppose the bottom sign stays until they are happy that overnight stays are working and not being abused.😊

Keep generators going for basic power , drop anchor . They come into Southampton docks to refuel and stock up for the basic crew . That is a big discussion point in Southampton ,that in port they got to operate generators to keep power going , no shore power in this modern age? pollution in Southampton is a problem . They don’t stay moored up in Southampton because of the dock fees . Much cheaper to be in Weymouth bay and other places .

Eight of them there at the moment, but it could be any number as they just come and go. There are two "floating blocks of flats" amongst them.

Ohh I have a feeling those Moho weren’t residents in the true sense.

More temporary residents 😊

Id heard they don’t stay in dock due to costs.

Surely the local authorities could put a stop on the generator issue.

It’s been the same with Oil tankers since the pandemic , as many as 25 odd at anchor off the east coast Lowestoft/Southwold .

Edit , fewer now.

At anchor we would normally be on no more than 20 minutes notice for engines, if dangerous anchorage, instant readiness. If the engines are completely shut down it would take 6 to 12 hours to prepare them .

Thought it would take a while to wind the engines up 😊
