I would like to remove the black cover that the aerial is mounted on to check out the earthing of our aerial as I think ours is duff. The trouble is, everything I've read so far about removing this cover (to replace a wing mirror) says to break off the cover which I don't want to do!

To be honest, I'm not sure that the cover can be removed without taking the whole mirror off as it completely surrounds the stem to the mirror. As this is fitted with shear bolts it's gonna be a bit of a pain to do.

It may prove easier to use a windscreen mounted aerial in the long run but I'd like to try and fix the present one if possible.

Hi Tim, think you are right about the mirrors. The job will involve breaking the plastic mirror trim to get to and remove the shear bolt.
Think replacement can be obtained off e bay which would be cheaper.
What I'm not clear about is what that has to do with the aerial earth.
Think my aerial earth is on roof below the aerial mount, but remember seeing another fitting on the nearside windscreen post , but that may have been a connector.
Ta Andy.
