Mixer tap leak question (1 Viewer)

Our mixer tap in the bathroom developed a leak last week. It started dripping from underneath and was running down one of the screws that secures the tap. We also noticed a slight leak from the top around the base where it sits on the worktop. I assumed it was the cartridge so I've just changed that and the tap is still leaking from underneath, running down the fastening bolt again.

Am I correct in assuming the tap is faulty and that a replacement is my only option?

Sounds like the tap is leaking internally and if that’s the case then I’d be changing it if it was in my MH

Yeah I've come to that conclusion too. I'm just trying to identify what one I have to buy now? There are so many but at least it doesn't have a microswitch so it shouldn't be too pricey

May be worth disconnecting and remove tap. Then reconnect pipes and try again. You should then be able to pin point the leak. It could be from the hose connections.

Check for a hairline crack, I found one in the nozzle, and managed to squeeze a little super glue in there with some support from a cable tie....so far so good.

It's more likely to be a hose connection, they rely on little rubber washes to seal. The fixing bolt usually screws into a blind hole in the base casting so unless the tap body has cracked internally there is no way for water to get to the screw.

I'm wondering if there was the tiniest bit of water left in the tap over winter which has caused it to crack. I know the bolt is just the route for the water to run away but I just thought that because it's not running down either ofbthe water pipes, it must be an internal malfunction?

I've just reread your post, ignore my previous post. If it's leaking above the worktop it's unlikely to be the pipe connection. It's a swivel tap so a problem with the seal around the swivel more likely. Probably time for a new tap.

Funny thing is that we've always felt it was very stiff to swivel, so we didn't, until recently that is, and now the leak. A new tap I reckon cause I can't afford to take a chance with water.
