Having oil and filter change as usual at this time of year, just before trip south for Festive Season...

Completely forgot I didn't go on a summer tour this year.

Just checked my service record book... I have only done 1,600 kms since the last oil change.

Never mind.

I do about 4,000 miles a year and rely on my commercial garage to look at the oil, smell it, feel it and tell me if it needs changing; last year he said 'NO' - and he sells it and charges for changes, so I trust him.

That is one reason why he has had my repeat business for 8 years.

my commercial garage to look at the oil, smell it,

Very interesting but...

I doubt that would work with my van as the over powering aroma emanating from the habitation area would surely mask any smell from the engine oil...

I think I will continue to relay on the distance between changes!

I have my oil changed annually even though I only do 5000miles. The synthetic oil required costs in excess of £100 just for the oil but I suppose it's worth it in the interest of reliability. It also has a change of oil filter, fuel filter and pollen filter.
