Mini Jump Starter

Noco brilliant bits if kit. Used to sell them to garages. Once they understood how they worked, they loved them and told others, that mainly how I sold them.

Noco seem to be the brand leader. Never had to use mine in anger on the MH, but bought it just after lockdown when the Toyota Hybrid kept failing to hold charge in the starter battery (despite the mega battery for the engine it still needed a basic starter to initiate the hybrid).

You do need to get one powerful enough for the engine size, a diesel in the MH will need a fair bit of grunt.

VCAZ is correct, NOCO is an outstanding piece of kit.
I bought the GB70 12V 2,000 AMP. (starts 8.0L Petrol or 6.0 lt. diesel engines).
We travel all over EU and this gives that security that you will never be stuck with a flat battery.

We've got an Anker one that I've had a few years. It's jumped the neighbours' cars several times. I've not needed to use it yet though.

How long do they stay charged for out of interest and what is the actual charging time to 100%

I prefer jump leads, always ready to go.

On the recommendation of Gromett a while back I bought the Ravpower 14,000 mAh one. I have used it once to jump start the neighbour's car. Which it did with ease. Never needed it myself (fingers crossed).

In the past I have connected the leisure battery to the flat starter battery using a cable device from Halfords that allows enough charge to be transferred to start the diesel engine. That can take up to 20 minutes. It also works from one vehicle to another. I wouldn't use jump leads today because of the risk of damaging ECUs.

Jump leads can fry electronics on newer vehicles, that's the problem with leads and old battery chargers. New smart charges and boosters can often cope with different types of batteries, and sensitive electronics. I have never nor will I give info on what to buy, I always recommend they read up about different, or get people 1st hand experience, before they buy.

As long as you connect up the correct order. I have never had a problem.

We have a NOCO Boost, brilliant bit of kit when used properly & I do not like leaving home without it. Buy the biggest you can afford.

The NOCO Boost has a wrong connection fail safe, just anoth thing to recommend it.
The Only issue is people popping them straight on, then trying to start things right away. Leave it 5 mins & then try, excellent bit of kit.

We also have the Ravpower jumpstart pack, brilliant little bit of kit and has jumpstarted our Ducato on occasion before getting a new starter battery.

Thanks all.
Have bought the Noco GB40, sadly from Halfrauds. It is a little cheaper on Amazon But thought need it now.

Update on our purchase.

It went back as it had been out the box before, cables not in sleeves, fully charged and no instructions or warranty card.

So got our money back and ordered one from Amazon. Just under 19£ cheaper at this moment in time.

My Brother is a second hand car dealer (Hiss Boo) but he swears by them.

With the NOCO Boost HD GB70, can it just be connected to the starter battery to top it up? I just want to take a starter/charger out to the storage site every couple of weeks and charge the starter battery without turning the engine over. I will of course take the van out of a long run also but wanted the backup of knowing the starter battery was fully charged as the tracker and alarm are off that battery also. The leisure batteries are at home with a charger. General consensus is that it is a jump starter only. Thanks.

Yes it will charge until volatage from booster and voltage from starter will level off.

I have a Noco,,👍👍👍

Please be aware the new GBX range is out and so you may see discounts on the older GB range.

Alternatively you could go for a noco genius, which is a smart charger only but will charge and I believe condition batteries including lithium, but does need to be connected to 230v.

I am probably going to fall foul of some wizardry electrical calculations which will state the Ah rate is not correct to charge a starter battery, only boost/jump. It seems an off-grid charger pack doesn't exist.

These lithium Ion booster packs are just that. A booster pack. They cannot start a van if the battery is totally buggered (0v).
As they are such a low capacity they cannot possibly charge a battery back up to a useable range.
The top of the range GBX155 has 99 watt hours of lithium cells in it. At 12 V this equates to around 10AH (very rough) so at best it could put 10AH into your lead acid battery. This would not be enough to make a dent in a badly discharged battery.

The beauty of Li cells is that they can dump current very, very fast. So although there is only a 10AH battery in the NOCO GBX155 it can dump it at a rate of 4250Amp which is a lot higher than even the best regularly lead acid batteries sold which have a 900A cranking current.
It is this high cranking current that will allow you to start a van using a booster not the total capacity.

Hope this all makes sense?

Ok I am no expert, but the noco genius, is for gentle charging and conditioning, and can be left on for months eg all winter, and will be good to go when you need it, unlike cheap old battery chargers many did not have a cut off and kept charging and boiled the battery dry. but a knackered battery is always going to be knackered.

Where's Lenny when you nee him?!

I think it would top up a starter battery about 10pc if it's a 100amp starter battery going on the information above.

Lenny will be along I'm sure.

Cheers James

I have had one of these Power Pacs for a while now (not a Noco but another well reviewed one) and they are invaluable for a range of uses. As said it may not start a completely Zero flat Battery which has been left to get to that state. Having been in that situation there was not even enough in the battery for my smart charger to recognise it was even attached to a battery. The end of the battery I assumed, however I put some power into it from the power bank sufficient for the smart charger to recognise it and after an ovenight charge battery has been surprisingly saved from scrap and continues to start the engine as it should.(y)

I'll just get a small nuclear power cell, or one of these and take the home charger, this is starting to become excessive though. This will output at 230v 400w (peak) and the AA charger consumption is 230v 65w.
